I don't have any specific recommendations on insurance, but I was much happier with the AAA Inter-Insurance Bureau, which was a non-profit cooperative program, than I've been with anything I've had up here.

Yay, house!!!! :)

If you don't already have a mover, I was very happy with mine. They moved me from Greenbelt to New Market, were reasonably priced and even re-assembled my waterbed without me asking or them suggesting it was part of the service. Let me know if you'd like me to dig up contact info.

Sure, that would be great. Finding a good moving company is always such a crap shoot.

My current home insurance is with MetLife. They've been pretty good. I recommend them.

If your new home has access to Verizon FIOS service, it's vastly superior to their DSL. I also think they're better than any of the local cable TV services.

Thanks for the recommendations.

I wouldn't have thought to ask about FIOS, but I guess there's not much point anyway, given sfw_dc's info. :)

I tend to avoid State Farm on general principle, but I'll keep Allstate in mind.

(My experience with Allstate in the past has been that they're generally about 50% more expensive than other companies for the same coverage, but maybe it'll be different in the District.)
