My Opinion (and only mine) on recent LJ-ness

May 31, 2007 08:41

I don't f-lock stories.  Period.  If LJ reaches a point where I must or face deletion, I'll simply put up a note that I've gone elsewhere.

I refuse to get paranoid about my stories, even if there's a reason to be.  I refuse to get defensive and scared.  Once you start fretting about these things, you're well on the road to self-censorship.  If they ( Read more... )

*grin* The continuation of the Clark/Bruce/Lois, actually, for they are greedy and demanding. :)

I'm in complete agreement, Jen. I do feel that this is a "This too shall pass" kind of thing. I remember a kerfuffle on Yahoo a few years ago about similar stuff and after some initial deletions, all cooled down. Now of course LJ could go on this witch hunt purge and we will all have to move, but I say why worry about it 'til/if it happens?

American society always has these hiccups. It's because we live in a society that listens to fundies/self-appointed moralists who like to root out 'immoral' elements.

My only worry is logging on to find that a bunch of accounts, including mine, have disappeared...because it might be hard to track people down again and find a new place to collect. I suppose I've managed to compile a lot of personal emails over the last year so I could get in touch with people that way. Even then, people find new places to collect. The Internet makes it almost impossible to stamp these things out.

And hey, like we were talking about recently, we could always go back to paper 'zines! :)

LOL! Yes, it's harder for them to stamp out paper! :)

I really don't think it'll come to that, you know. I could be wrong, but how many times has fandom gone through stuff like this? We've survived other misguided hunts and we will again. It's a neverending battle for...! ;)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure this will all blow over. I do hope so...LJ is where I spend an awful lot of my spare time now...having to recamp would be a pain. Although as arch_schatten pointed out, we can always regroup in the Yahoo!group to some extent...

I don't really have anything to say on this topic (I was already f-locked, and well I don't have much to worry about per se) but I'm commenting to...umm...let you know I read this post? : D
That, and to say, 'agreed'.
Now almost everyone on my f-list has commented on this recent happening. Only two more people to go, lol!

Much love,

*waves* Hi! :) Locking personal posts is perfectly reasonable and I do it now and then (I don't have many personal posts, LOL). Locking fic seems to defeat the purpose to me. :)

Agreed. If you locked your fic, I'd never have found you. And the thought of that makes me sad. /sniffles/

But yeh, I rarely write any fic. DD: I'm so awful at writing >_<"

Aw, thanks! :) I've gotten to know a lot of people who started off as anonymous commenters and could never have met them otherwise, so no locking around here...

Are they threatening to delete you? Because of slash? 'Cos there's people like me that don't have accounts and so can read anything f-locked. It's most annoying. The irony is I've always been an adult when surfing the internet. But even if I haven't I've read much more sexually disturbing things in the Bible. Do you have things saved on your computer so you could set up elsewhere if needs be? Please call yourself jen-in-japan (or something similar) so I might find you. Because I'll be most upset if you disappear. I'm worried now.

I've heard people muttering darkly about the slippery slope--first it'll be incest and rapefic, then they'll come for the slash. I doubt that's true, but the climate nowadays makes it hard to tell sometimes. I do have everything saved. :) But I'm unlikely to disappear.

Have you every considered getting yourself an LJ? Just the basic free one?
