Sometimes I am struck with nostalgia for a time when I was much fitter, much cuter, much younger than I am now. I wonder then, when I'm older, will I be looking back on this time and thinking the same thing? I despair at the potentially slippery slope that ageing brings. We live in a youth-oriented society. There is definitely a nostalgia for the past - a “Gosh I was thin” type of thing.

But really, at the time I certainly didn’t think that. I was self conscious and awkward and couldn’t take a compliment.

In my youth (from 19), I had the desk, the 8:30-6/7/8 job but not the same other responsibilities (the plans for the future etc). Comfort and planning makes you soft!

But soft can be lovely.

hm there was a marked difference in my life, going from working two casual jobs... no car.... cycling to Leedy from Maylands to start at 5am, work til 12 or so, ride to the city, leave bike locked up in mall, catch bus to 2nd job and work through to 4 or 5pm... to working 9-5 in one location at a desk and earning about the same :P
