3773: Talk To Me

Another fable, one I need to remind myself about now and again:C didn't get his driver's license until his mid-twenties. This became a point of contention with X, who before would get annoyed at having to pick up C instead of C just driving himself over. At one gathering, X went on at length about how C was "lazy for not getting his license sooner ( Read more... )

Or, to cloud up the moral, I can quote William Shatner in one of the Trek movies: "You have to MAKE the time". I guess that would be in favor of X over C, but C has a License now so I guess it's moot for his particular case?

In this particular instance, "MAKE TIME" doesn't quite apply, because it involves the participation of at least one other person. It is futile to MAKE someone do something for you who can't for a number of reasons. This is what I meant in emphasizing the failure to get all the information before passing judgement--it'd be like spoiled-ass me who's never known real debt telling you just to get a new car already without considering that you already have considerable financial difficulties.

[I do still recommend a new-as-in-not-already-owned-by-you car, but mostly just the doing your homework on getting one at this point.]

Well I suppose worst case C could have paid an instructor to teach him... but that requires money then and that could be another limitation.

[I am thinking about car replacement in a year with the next tax return, provided my car maintain integrity until then]

Compare: B is in the same situation as C was, but he has 1. no car, and 2. no particular need for a car, since he works from home and/or bums a ride from friends when needed. C pretty much got his license because it was worthwhile [and finally got the required with-licensed-driver time]--otherwise, he might still not have one. B has even less opportunity and might not get a driver's license until he moves somewhere he'll need one.

Otherwise, we might see him more than once every two years =/

I didn't get mine until early twenties. mostly because of timing issues and procrastination/laziness.
