Another fable, one I need to remind myself about now and again:C didn't get his driver's license until his mid-twenties. This became a point of contention with X, who before would get annoyed at having to pick up C instead of C just driving himself over. At one gathering, X went on at length about how C was "lazy for not getting his license sooner" [exact words], to which H responded that C must have been scared of something and finally got over it. I, having no idea what to say at the time, having not been as advice-column-educated at the time as I am now, declined to participate, but I have come to somewhat regret not speaking up though I knew at the time the conversation was going in an unfair direction.
Later, I did what X should have done and asked C why he didn't get his license sooner. C's response?
"Maryland law requires X hours of practice time with a licensed driver, and I couldn't get it until now!"
The moral is sort of complex. Obviously, "There are two sides to every story" is one, but "Don't jump to conclusions" also applies, even if it's a little more "Experiences are not one size fits all." [As for me, Tennessee is so ridiculously lax that I'm surprised I'm not a WORSE driver than I am, having taken hitting someone to really amp my paranoia up to appropriate "safe defensive driver" levels.]
Mostly, I think "If you don't know, ASK." It's cropped up in work, especially now when we're trying to retro-engineer, as it were, a certain project I'm supposed to do, and NO ONE can figure out how Taffy did it before. [Though it was also a complaint of mine when Mickey would unload on me vs. taking it up with the person in question. Or worse, do BOTH and drag me into the drama.] It certainly applies anytime anyone has a beef with someone and for what reason has not sat down with the person and talked about it directly... the plague of first-time college roommates worldwide =/ [seriously, can there not be a "social skills" class in high school that teaches kids how to interact with people? or does no one know how to do this?!]
Up late 'cause I napped earlier. Not digging the broken-up sleep at night making me feel exhausted, not rested, when I wake up, so seeing if a change will work.
Also, make-up sushi for dinner is NOMS =9 although... I'm still thirsty after drinking four glasses of liquids... T_T WHUT
