Things to Do at the Beach, Galactica Point, Friday Morning

May 26, 2006 08:14

At some point during the week, Jarod had sent out a handwavey note to the members of his workshop, telling them to dress appropriately for outdoor weather, including a swimsuit. Today, he was standing on the beach, barefoot and wearing a pair of jeans and a shirt as he waited for the workshop to arrive. "Good morning," he said, smiling at ( Read more... )

Jack had never seen a kayak before, but they looked interesting. He grabbed a paddle and practiced his stroke according to Jarod's instructions.

It seemed pretty easy, so he decided to try it live. The life vests weren't very appealing, but he put one on before placing a kayak in the water.

"Okay, now what?" Considering it, he balanced the paddle across the front of the whatever-you-called the place where you sat, and stepped in. After a moment's wobbliness, he sat down and pushed off.

Okay. This? Was fun.

"Beep beep!"

Pippi came from behind and shot past Jack.

"Hey," Jack called out with a laugh. "Watch it! Some of us are still learning."

"I finally managed to stay upright!" she called back to him as she stuck a blade of her paddle into the water on one side in an effort to turn. "I'm going to get in as much as I caaaaaaaaa!"

*splosh*

Pippi's craft rolls over.

"Woah!" Jack dipped an oar in the water and pushed his kayak next to hers, getting ready to go after her if she didn't resurface very quickly.

The kayak rolls around and she comes up the other side. She looks more amused then anything.

"... aaan." she finishes.

Relieved, Jack raised an eyebrow at her. "Wow, you are good at this. How did you do that?"

"Um... I'll let you know when I figure out how to do it on purpose." she said smiling sheepishly.

Her kayak seems to want to be at a 60 degree angle one way or the other. Right now she looks like she's doing an impression of a metronome as she works to right herself.

Jack laughed at that. "Well, it was very impressive. I won't tell anyone you didn't do it on purpose." He looked down and leaned first one way, then the other, rocking his kayak. "Think I should give it a try?" he asked teasingly.

Pippi rested her paddle on the kayak and folded her arms in a mock pout at being teased so.

"Well you can try." she said, her pout melting into a smile. "But if you end up drowning yourself don't come crying to me."

Laughing, Jack pointed out, "If I drown, I'm not going to be able to come crying to you. But point taken, I think I'll stick with staying on the surface for the moment."

"Yes, I suppose there is that." Pippi laughed. Or rather, one would hope that he would not be able to come crying.

"Though, this being Fandom, I suppose anything is possible. My waterlogged ghost might end up haunting this kayak." He looked down at it again. "What a boring afterlife that would be."

"That would depend greatly on what happens to the kayak afterwards."

Jack tapped the kayak, then ran a hand down it's surface speculatively. "I guess it's possible. What did you have in mind?"

"I should think the possibilities are endless."
