I have a friend who has nothing going for him.

His name is Michael.  He's Tasmanian, 23 now.  He went to college, but hasn't done anything since.  Literally, nothing.  Never had a job or a relationship (except with his sister's best friend, who used him for comfort before going back to her boyfriend), still a virgin, drinks so much that he had gout ( Read more... )

Thank you.

I have to admit to cheating a bit though. I changed my entire name by deed poll at sixteen. It is my real name, but has only the initials in common with the one I was born with.

To be fair though, my mother changed it twice before then, which heavily contributed to my decision to pick something I actually liked (I cringed every time someone used my old name - you can't go through life like that).

It seems that you are a bit envious of this friend. You automatically assume his new girlfriend will realize that he is a no-hoper. Though may I be so tact as to suggest she must have to like something about him to go out with him? As far as self improvement goes, he should start straight away but, to quote myself "Unless they've got a gun to your head other people can't influence your actions". Only he can make an effort, and hopefully he will. I'm a big believer in it myself, and I try new things all the time, just for the sake of broadening my scope, but that's me, and I'm awesome.

Also, I've been posting in this blog on and off for a couple of weeks, and only now do I realize who you are. Funny, as I initially started reading this page because it shared the name of a blog a woman I once knew posted in. Alas, you be her. Therefore, I don't think I'll be commenting again.
