TOC Memories

Wow - what a weekend! It had Good, Bad and Amazing.

Good Stuff - For an event that fell of the Royal Progress rather late in the process, it was well attended. I wish I could say the same for feast - thehonorablellt is a fantastic cook, and I really hope to have her highlighted at a *major* kingdom level event soon. I seem to understand that Highland Forde is ( Read more... )

I hadn't noticed a problem with Dayboard attendance - we went through most of the soup, with all of the venison chunks being eaten (some of the broth/veggies was left) and we only had 3 small containers of the lentil left. On the whole I was happy with it.

BTW, my understanding is that Highland Forde's 12th Night bid includes Edric as head cook. I'm thinking we could either put forward a bid of our own (kinda late to get started on this) or put one in for next year. Perhaps we could work with Dun Carriag to get the Fire hall? I mentioned this to Bo yesterday while I was at the storage place and I think she would be willing to consider being autocrat...

Edited: I should clarify - it's not too late to put in a bid this year if we could get moving on it quickly - but timing is something to consider since we don't have a Storviki site in mind yet.

I guess I thought the day board was lightly attended because I saw so few people wander by while I was there.

I can't remember the specifics, but someone mentioned a hall out somewhere northern Georgia Ave way?? that might hold a 12th Night. I might have made a note somewhere - but considering the pile o' paper that infests the house, I don't hold out a lot of hope of finding it.

I would have really liked to attend, and as much as I adore Orla & LLT... They just don't have the same power over my life that my 86 year old jewish grandmother has. Grandma insisted I come over for Passover Sedar, with her first Grandson. Who am I to say no?

Family trumps SCA every time. -And great grandchildren need to be coddled.

The American Legion can be rather flaky to deal with. About 17 or 18 years ago, when I was in Windmaster's Hill, we did Ymir at an AL post. I was the head cook.

1. The kitchen was filty and we had to clean it (including washing down the walls) PRIOR to even doing food prep. Yech!

2. The post double booked the kitchen for their annual chili cook off. We found out when some of their members wandered into the kitchen and were bent out of shape that we were there. However, the autocrat produced the contract, and we worked out a compromise so that they could have their chili cook off and we could get the feast out on time.

The American Legion is not high on my list of organizations with whom I prefer to interact.

We had a similar problem with the Shriners one year. Luckily, they didn't double-book, but their kitchen was filthy, and we literally spent hours cleaning it. And then the next day during the event, one of their members had the gall to tell us they had cleaned it before we had gotten there. I'd hate to see their idea of dirty.
