TOC Memories

Wow - what a weekend! It had Good, Bad and Amazing.

Good Stuff - For an event that fell of the Royal Progress rather late in the process, it was well attended. I wish I could say the same for feast - thehonorablellt is a fantastic cook, and I really hope to have her highlighted at a *major* kingdom level event soon. I seem to understand that Highland Forde is working on a 12th Night bid - maybe we could work out an arrangement.

The weather was spectacular, if a little hot for some of the fighters. What can I say - I was asked for fine weather, and that is what we had. I suppose that we can consider it early conditioning, sort of like spring training in Florida for baseball.

FOOD! Feast was wonderful, but during the day everywhere I went there was FOOD! With my teeny tiny stomach, I was overwhelmed by the offers. It all looked so good and I was able to sample only the smallest portion. This may have contributed to the lack of response to the day board. I really liked it - I got my portion of protein and indulged in the fruit. Yum - venison.

Ladies Solar - A nice respite for anyone who wanted it - good location on the field, musicians entertaining through the day (and having a jam session while they were at it). We'll have another at Novice, with many iced drinks and more of the refreshing snacks. However, I'll supervise its placement on the field. More frontage, less depth.

Fighting - I am not so educate din this - Atantian fighting has progressed so much over the years, and with the speed, I have trouble following the action. But they seemed to enjoy it. It ended early as they got tired - some said the heat did them it. Which leads us to -

Court - We were processed in with a trumpet - got everyone's attention! We moved it up as I really wanted to catch all the fighters before they bailed at the end of the main event. Didn't manage to do it. Sigh. I handed out a portion of the favors to the fighters, then had other Storvikii who wanted new favors come forward. I'll post pictures of them when I remember to load them. Handed out a few more at fighter practice. Handed out well deserved awards - Our Herald Patricia has kept us on the straight and narrow several times. She has kept an eye on the newsletter requirements and took it upon herself when we were in danger of default for not publishing on time. She is at nearly every barony meeting and most events. I see her continuing on this path as well. So we added her to the Lozulet. We startled her by having her call herself into court. We had another learning experience later - Donal (bless him) later explained some of the protocol of the situation. I think I need to have a long sit down with him to get more of this straight in my mind.

We were given James Griffin and Kim of Wolfhaven's Golden Dolphin scrolls to present. Apparently, they didn't know that these had been awarded! They have been more that busy in mundane life. I really hope this was so. James made the event. I don't know if I did this right, but I did mention it to several fishes that I wanted to call them in when we presented the scrolls. Everyone else gets to have their order there, so why not them? He seemed pleased - but the cat might have been let out of the bag earlier in the day.

The not so good - site staff. When baron_rorik is feeling better, he will be contacting the American Legion about the poor performance of their people. Others have reported on this, and when we have follow up, I will too.

The Hall - with not being able to get in Friday, and late Saturday - hall decoration was skipped. Made it very stark. I was able to do some decorating of high table with banners and the pennants. I need to compose a total high table presentation to bring with us. I keep forgetting - and need to coordinate with the autocrat. My bad.

The Amazing - Better living through chemistry. My standard response to stress is a certain level of panic, and wanting to 'fix it' But with my current set of meds, I wasn't stressed. I didn't froth at the mouth or have a melt down. I was able to walk away and let those who could work the problem do so.

I'll have a lessons learned post in preparation for Novice later. Besides standing most of the day and paying for it Sunday and Monday, I think this can be counted a success.
