“Well you did. And although you don’t have to? I suggest you fix it.”
Cassie gets up and kisses Sam’s cheek. “I’m going to go shower.” She leaves the room and within a few minutes the sound of water and splashing is coming from the bathroom. Eventually the water turns off; Cassie comes out of the bathroom and goes to her room. The door closes.
Sam sighs, rubs her neck. Then she rests her head against the wall and closes her eyes. After several minutes she stands up, goes outside Cassie’s door and knocks.
“Hold on a minute!” Mumbling and stumbling around the room can be heard from the other side of the door before Cassie opens it. “Yes?”
“You’ve met him once. Because, no, that little escapade upstairs shouldn’t count for much except perhaps for his ability to keep his composure. And obviously you saw something then because you told me that you approved and you went back to Earth and have been gone for all this time.”
“I know. I don’t have a problem with him. It’s just you’ve known him for a month and you’re already that serious? Not that I didn’t semi-expect it but I suppose I didn’t expect to be right in the middle of it either.”
“I don’t know why we’ve gotten so close so fast, but I’ve stopped worrying about it. It just feels right. When we’re apart I feel so empty. He makes me happy when he’s not doing anything..he fills me up..” She makes a vague circling motion near her chest and then looks away and drops her hands.
A nod. “I was just wondering. I’ll leave you to..whatever you were doing.” Sam stands and walks towards the door but pauses in the doorway. “Do you want anything, drink..jello?”
She smiles but shakes her head. “No, but thank you.”
Cassie sets the laptop off by her room and then goes to Sam’s. “Hey.”
Sam glances up from her notes. “Have a good breakfast?”
“We had omelets.” She comes in and sat on the bed.
“mm.”

“I’m just doing my work..” She motions to the paperwork.
Cassie gives her a Look.. “Right. Whatever.”
“So how are things with Billy?”
She shrugs. “I’m not the one who made him mad.”
Reply
“Come on..what did you expect?”
“...Apparently I’m missing something.”
“He says you talked down to him. Whether you did or not is not for us to argue, but the point is that he thinks you did and he’s upset about it.”
Sam looks thoughtful. “I didn’t mean to..”

Cassie motions for Sam to join her in her room and the two sit on the bed.
“I just want the best for you - that’s all.”
“Have you already decided that Billy’s not the best for me?”
“Have you decided that he is?”

Cassie shakes her head. “You know I’m not the one to be telling.”
“I’ll talk to him.”

“Are you staying there again tonight?”
Cassie raises an eyebrow and studies Sam.
“...perhaps.”
