Author's Notes: A huge thank you to my wonderful artist, who not only created amazing pieces for this fic, but also gave me such positive feedback that I felt finally comfortable with this project!
And, of course, to my wonderful beta and fellow Gisher, b3takitten, who did some needed last-minute native-speaker revision when no one else would take this on!
And, finally, I'd like to thank the amazing mods for taking on and managing perfectly a challenge of this size - you are fabulous!
Since the LJ posting limit doesn't cooperate with me, I will be hosting this fic completely on AO3 (for the first time, yeah)! I've still decided to provide a sort of Content Page here, so below you find the links to individual chapters on AO3 - or just click on the AO3 link above, which will take you to the first page of the fic! Hope you enjoy reading! And if you want to read more about my thoughts on writing this fic, and see the teaser poster I made for the fic, see below!

From the writing desk / Author's Notes Part II: The French Mistake has obviously inspired a range of fanfictions, which I'll happily recommend to anyone who's interested, but I found one aspect to be less written about: the tantalizing implications of Meta!Misha, "fake Cas", and the possibility that he could be a vessel for Castiel. Since I strive to integrate my fanfic into canon, that, naturally, would mean that he had to have somehow survived without it being apparent in the episode itself, Castiel probably having a hand in it. Castiel, however, had since "The French Mistake" swallowed Purgatory souls, become God, got overtaken by Leviathans, died, came back without his memory, only to regain it just before taking on Sam's madness, and then being zapped to Purgatory - which meant that the only point where I could set my fic was in Season 8, when Castiel was actually trying to correct some of the wrongs he committed, amongst which the destruction of the meta universe certainly counts. This, then, was my starting point.
Writing about Meta!Misha: "The French Mistake" offers us some, but very little inside into Meta!Misha's character. We know he is not Misha Collins, but a parody - one that, according to Misha, wasn't completely effective, and ended up making Meta!Misha something of an unpleasant person rather than an complete exaggeration. I didn't want to lose this character completely, however, so in fleshing out his character I mainly started to think about how the changed circumstances on set in the meta universe could have impacted his personality, and continued from there. Misha's responses to Con questions regarding Meta!Misha as well as his potential reactions should he meet Castiel were a valuable (and entertaining) source! ;-)
Castiel and Dean: Meta!Misha's introduction as a new vessel - as opposed to Jimmy, who had begun to be taken for granted by the Winchesters - allowed me to touch upon some important aspects of Castiel's and Dean's relationship, as much as playing with the angel-vessel dynamic. I won't go into this in detail since it would spoil much of the fic, but let's just say that as much thought went into this as into Meta!Misha's character. This fic is still very much about Dean and Castiel. :-) So, without further ado, enjoy reading!
