In the past: one two three four five

The next week of school seemed to fly by. The hot topic that was on everybody’s lips the entire week was about all the Christmas parties that were being held that weekend. In fact, it seems that this year, everyone and their mother is throwing a party. Leeteuk, Yesung, Heechul, Hankyung, and Boa, are all having one, and that’s just the list for the popular Seniors, I’m sure there are other parties other Seniors are having too. (The pile of invitations Yunnie and I received, proves it). Also, Juniors; Shindong and Kangin, are having ones as well, but I heard they might combine theirs. I really want to go to that one. The Junior twins Kwon Shim Min and Kwon Shim Dae are having one too. (I remember theirs because they gave out really fancy invitations... that sang). The only Sophomore that I know, that is having one, is that Donghae boy Yunnie seems to like. And I have no clue what the Freshmen are doing, but I hope Minnie has a party to go to as well this weekend, Xiah too, if they don’t, they can always tag along with their “big brothers”. Yeah, like a nice family outing or something.

Even if they do have somewhere to go, they’re coming with us to at least one of the parties.

For me, I know that no matter what I say, we’re going to end up going to Heechul’s (it’s not that I don’t like the guy, it just that MY best friend is Leeteuk, and I want to go to his, even if it ends up being the same day and time as Heechul’s party) party. Though I think Yunnie had checked and said they weren’t. I don’t know, he was changing his clothes at the time, so I wasn’t really paying attention to what he was saying.

Anyway, at the current moment, besides all the parties coming up, the only other thing I had on my mind was when was this darn class going to end. I mean sure, it’s Music Comprehension (therefore it’s easy), and sure, I had it with my Yunnie, (therefore I was happy to be in it) but, it was still a very long, and very boring class. Thank goodness it is also the last class of the day.

I sighed as I stared at the clock in the music room for the umpteenth time. The assignment was to write lyrics that would be good for a “hip - hop” song. I got stumped after writing “Yo Yo Yo listen up” on my paper. What rhymes with “up”?...cup...

Yo Yo Yo listen up
I own a really cool sippy cup

I laughed and went back to thinking about the upcoming parties. I’ll add more to my masterpiece later. I wonder what I should wear to the party, oh, maybe Yunnie and I could match somehow? But what would we look better in; red or green... do I own something green...?

**************************************

I was doodling a cool border around my “hip - hop” lyrics when Jae laughed for no reason beside me, he was staring off into space as well. I was about to ask him what was so funny when a boy named Kyumin tapped me on my arm. I looked over at him, he had a note in his hand and he held it out to me, so I took it.

“What’s this?”

“Don’t know, I’m just the messenger.” He said. It was Friday, so it was too late for it to be an invite to another party. And it was regular, lined paper... great, another love note. Better read it fast before Jae snaps out of la la land. I unfolded the note.

Yunho hyung,
We need to talk. Can you meet me in the parking lot after school? It’s about your family.
- Lee Sung Min

I reread the note a couple of times. It’s about my family? I quickly thought over the past week. No one has slipped up since Junsu did back in September, so what has happened to make this Sungmin kid think he knows something. Then again, Lee Sungmin is known around here for knowing everything about everybody’s business. But still. I had been waiting for something bad to happen ever since I got the feeling that something would, but I thought that Micky Yoochun finding out our secret was it, but it wasn’t, then again I guess it couldn’t be since he ended up talking the news so well. So, is Lee Sungmin finding IT out, it? I don’t know, what I do know is after 14 years of hiding this thing, it seems strange that NOW everything seems to be falling apart. Then I remembered Jae’s essay. It was suppose to be locked up in his teacher’s desk, but what of it wasn’t, what if someone found out what was written on that paper... Was if that someone was Sungmin?

Jae laughed randomly again, and I saw him mouth the word “shoe”. I decided then and there that I wasn’t going to tell Jae about Sungmin’s note. No need to worry my weirdo.

The class ended and I tried to act like I didn’t want to sprint out of the room and out to the parking lot. I casually gathered my things and strolled out of the room. Then I quickened my pace after Jae told me to “hurry up”.

“You can’t avoid me forever, U - Know Yunho.” I smirked.

“You’re right, but I can avoid you for the next couple of hours, Cindy.” Heechul just huffed. I had been dealing with not only him, but everyone else who was having a Christmas party this weekend, all day. Everyone wanted me to go to theirs. Of course I was going to Heechul’s, I just like making him squirm. Really, the only thing I really needed to consider was who else’s party to go to. Well, even though we are both friends with him, Jae’s going to count this one as “my choice” since Heechul’s my best friend. That, and I know he’ll want to go to Leeteuk’s since that’s his best friend. Really, Leeteuk and Heechul should just combine their parties, it would be so much easier that way.

“You’re going to that kid, Donghae’s, party aren’t you, you would rather play with that kid, then with your BEST friend?” He pouted.

“I thought you liked Donghae.”

“Don’t change the subject.”

“Too late, I already did, and I’m changing it again, to the subject of “goodbyes”.”

“What?”

“Goodbye, Cinderella, I’ll see you later.” I turned around and started heading for the door. I could hear him following me.

“You mean later as in, at my party, right?”

“Goodbye.”

“Yunhoooooo.” Once I was outside and Heechul - less, I made my way to the parking lot. I saw Sungmin. He too, seemed to be trying to pass if off like everything was normal. But to me it looked like he was waiting nervously for someone.

“There you are, Yunho, why you’d take off, I had to deal with both Leeteuk and Heechul back there.” Jae said as he came up behind me, he was pointing back at the school. Right, I had to talk to Sungmin, alone, but how do I get rid of Jae without him knowing that I am. Then I spotted Kim Kangin by his car. Too easy.

“So Leeteuk didn’t tell you then?”

“Tell me what?”

“Oh, it’s nothing really, we just heard that Kim Kangin wanted to talk to you about something.”

“Kangin wants to talk to me, well, why doesn’t he then?”

“I don’t know, he said something about it being hard to get you by yourself, to talk to you, but that’s just what I heard...” Jae had already left my side and was making his way towards Kangin. Even though the boy would tell him that he didn’t ask to talk to him about anything special, it won’t stop those two from gabbing for the next ten minutes. Plenty of time to talk to Sungmin. I walked up to him.

“All right, lets hear it.” I said as soon as I was close enough.

“Maybe we should wait for the lot to empty a bit more.” He said.

“Sungmin, I don’t have all day, and I doubt you have even anything...”

“It’s about your family.”

“What about my family?” He looked from side to side.

“And I’m not the only one who knows this.” He said softly. Okay now I was beginning to get a bit nervous. Could he really know? Did he know that Yoochun knew? Was it Yoochun he was talking about, or are there more? Please let it be that he was talking about Yoochun.

“What are you talking about?” He was quiet for a bit, then he indicated that I needed to lean in closer before he could speak. So I did.

“I don’t know everything, but I know that West Kanya knows that for some reason, Jaejoong hyung’s nickname is “Mom”, and not just that, but also he knows that Jaejoong hyung wrote about the “Kim family secret” in his most recent essay for his korean class. Now, I’ve been able to keep him from talking for a while now, but the thing that I have been holding over him has just fallen through...”

“What were you holding over him?”

“Oh, just that I happen to know that there is a certain faculty member he has been sleeping with... but now that certain faculty member is quitting, and the only reason he agreed to keep his mouth shut was because he didn’t want that certain faculty member to get fired, but now that that certain faulty member is leaving...”

“Okay, okay, I get it, you have nothing to hold over him now, so what’s he going to do with the information he DOES know?”

“Well, from what I hear, he plans on spilling that bit of information at Kim Heechul’s Christmas party, I also heard that they, he and his friends, have been trying to get a hold of that essay that Jaejoong hyung wrote for his korean class.” He moved away from me then. My mind had frozen when I heard the words “Jaejoong” and “Mom” used in the same sentence, and that was a while back. But even after a million thoughts and questions started running through my mind, I only asked one.

“Do you think you could get a hold of that essay before he does?”

“I’m glad you’re not trying to deny anything, it makes things easier.” I mentally kicked myself. I could have at least said that the whole “mom” nickname thing was ridiculous. “I have great connections within our school faculty, but unfortunately so does Kanya. It’s been hell just finding out about his party plot, for every one teacher I find willing to tell me things, I get two who refuse to even talk about Kanya. So all I know is that he trying to get it, I don’t know how or when or what his chances are for succeeding. As of now, I’d say your best bet is that if he doesn’t have it now, he won’t get it, because Jaejoong’s hyung korean teacher is taking all the essays home with her today, and then handing them back to the students on Monday...”

“So, wait, as of now, they are no longer locked in her desk?” Sungmin’s eyes widen at realizing what that meant. Now would be the perfect time for someone to try and get a hold of the essay. I saw Jae retuning. I had to rap this up. “Sungmin listen to me, I need you to find that essay and give it to me.” Then the strangest thought came over me, and in an instant, I had the greatest idea I have ever come up with, well, since the day I decided that running away with Jae was a great idea.

“Okay.” He said.

“Scratch that, don’t give it to me, when you get it, I want you to make copies of it.”

“What?”

“Makes copies, hundreds of them, okay.”

“But...”

“Okay?”

“Sure thing, Yunho hyung.”

“I’ll call you later, and tell you what to do after that.” If this was really going to happen. If our family secret was really going to be at risk of getting out, then it was going to be on my terms. It was going to happen the way I wanted it to. We really should have done this a long time ago, or at least right after Jae and I turned 18.

“Okay.” He said, and I handed him my phone so he could give me his number.

“Great.” I said, as he handed me the phone back.

“What’s great?” Jae asked once he was by my side again. It’s a good thing that my brilliant mind was on a roll today.

“Oh, Sungmin was just informing me that, after asking around, it seems that the Christmas party to be at this year, is Heechul’s, so I vote we go to his first.”

“When is it?” Crap, there goes my brilliant mind, I don’t remember when it is. All I remember is, after checking, it wasn’t on the same day as Leeteuk’s,... wait, I think I already told Jae the exact dates of the parties, so why is he asking again?

“Hee Chul hyung’s party is tonight.” Sungmin spoke up. Jae raised his eyebrows.

“You know, Boa’s party is tonight too, you sure you don’t want to go to hers?’ Figures he’d remember when hers is. Wait, tonight! That means Kanya was going to act tonight, at the party... TONIGHT!

“I rather goes to Heechul's.” Was all I said. At Jae’s smile I knew I wasn’t going to tell him that our private lives where at risk. I prefer a happy Jae to a worrying one. Then I realized something.

“Ummm, Jae, where is Changmin and Junsu?”

“Well, if you didn’t flee the building like you did, you would know that Xiah went over Micky’s house, but only for a few hours, and Changmin is finishing up an art project.”

“Oh.” I wanted to point out that that means we have the house to ourselves (in a sexy way), but Sungmin was still there. Even if he knew something, he didn’t need to know EVERYTHING.

“Well, I’ve got to go, but I guess I’ll see you two love birds at the party later tonight, right?” Sungmin said.

“Right.” I said

“Love birds?” Jae questioned. I replayed what Sungmin said in my head.... he did say that. But instead of replying the boy just smiled and walked away. Jae looked to me for an answer. I just shrugged my shoulders. What do you expect from the boy who knows everything. At this point I really wouldn’t be surprised if Sungmin had meant what he said.

After that, we hopped on our bikes and headed home. I avoided answering Jae’s questions about what Sungmin meant at first, but then I just gave up.

“The kid knows everything, Jae, so maybe he does know about us... but even if he does,” I started adding as soon as Jae started to open his mouth again. “He’s Junsu’s friend, we can trust him, right?”

“Why does all of Xiah’s friends get to know, but mine can’t?”

“Because all of Xiah’s friends are smarter then yours.” Jae laughed and accepted the answer. Then he told me how he wanted all four of us to go to at least one of the Christmas parties this year. He thought the one tonight would be perfect. I agreed. Good, I wanted the whole family to be there.

Tonight’s party was going to be the last place I wanted to be, yet, at the same time I couldn’t wait to put my plan into action. Tonight was going to be one hell of a night.
