BOOBS

Just a short list.

- I have torpedo boobs.  My milk came in the day we were leaving the hospital. Nipples are doing ok. Haven't had any bleeding yet, but wow I can see how some Mom's just don't continue to breastfeed when they get so sensitive and latch can be such a challenge.

- I desperately need nursing wear. Shirts, bras and nursing friendly ( Read more... )

I must have missed the post announcing the birth of your son! Mazel tov! I hope everything is wonderful.

I hope to gain some wisdom your breastfeeding trials... though it may console you to hear that many moms I've spoken to say it does get easier (and less sore!). Hang in there, I'm sure your body will do what it needs to for your son (hasn't it already?).

Pre-pregnancy I was about a 38C. I went up to about a 40D during pregnancy and it wavered up until the end around there. So far in the few bras I've tried on have all been the soft cup size and a Large is doing alright.

I'll check into the Bravado, I just need to measure myself to figure out what size I should get. Lord knows getting out to go "shopping" at this point is a challenge.

I tried the pinky things. Sadly, he's totally and utterly uninterested. I'm going to talk to the Lactation specialist at the hospital on Monday and see what they suggest too.

alex's cousin said that motherwear.com is a good place that often has discounts and is good quality. but that in general, you don't always NEED nursing tops. she said it's nice to have some nursing tank tops with stuff you can wear over them that buttons/zips/etc, but even that isn't necessary.

Well, I can't really wander around shirtless everywhere though!

Sadly, most of the stuff I own doesn't really work for nursing... I figure if I have to spend some money on shirts that work, I might as well check out the nursing specific stuff.

heh, yeah, it's one thing if you can get by with button-down shirts and a tank top underneath that you can easily pull down, but if your wardrobe doesn't work out for it, then yeah, topless isn't always a good solution. especially when the weather's colder. ;o) in that case, her favorite place is motherwear.com - she said it's much better quality than motherhood maternity and other maternity stores she has tried. the only thing is that you have to buy online, but she said that their sizing chart is pretty accurate and she's been VERY happy with it.

i also hear the nursing tanks and bras at target by gilligan o'malley are pretty good considering how not-exorbitantly-priced they are.

I feel the best thing to not really skimp on is a really great nursing bra. I struggled to get Brendan to nurse at all, and no one could help me get him to even want to latch on. So because of that I didn't need my nursing bra for nursing very long, but because it's quite a nice bra I still wear it! I can't remember what brand it is right now, but I know I got it at JC Penney. I will get back to you on that in the morning!

A nursing gown was a real plus for me in the beginning as well. I got that from JC Penney, too. I loved being comfortable nursing in that at home, especially at night. I was able to find some decent and inexpensive nursing cami's at Target, even those I still wear. :P

I have a couple now that I like. Now that my milk is in, I can really figure out what size I am. I'll get out to the store here one of these days.. hahah!

I've heard swaddling is very comforting to newborns...not sure if it would replace the sucking instinct though. I've only spent time around other people's newborns. :)

He does well with swaddling, but he still fusses and squirms with nothing in his mouth.
