Mew. I don't know. I find myself almost evenly balanced between the good and bad in your application, from things I did and did not like about you from reading this tiny representation of you, to more objective elements like your arguments, writing, and thinking styles. Tell me something you're interested in/passionate about (other than grammar) or find that you can just rant about, and tell me. I need a little extra push in the yes direction....

Well, for one thing, willful ignorance and the banishment thereof is a passion of mine. Allow me, if you will, to relate that to my previously listed passion: bad grammar. When I point out someone's obvious mistake that happens to make them look quite stupid, and receive a comment akin to "This isn't English class!" I want to move to a different planet. People don't understand the importance of intelligence anymore, and I think I know why. Schools today are basically forced (thank you, No Child Left Behind) to teach to the test. This manner of "educating" teaches children nothing more than to regurgitate facts--they don't have to actually absorb anything, and they don't want to. Philosophy is a lost art these days. I want people to want to think. That's one of the reasons I really like the Jewish faith's approach to religion--question everything. I don't preach nonconformity, because then you tend to conform to the nonconformists. I just wish more people would think for themselves.

YEP, yep, yep. The failure of education in most societies has bothered me for a while, I tend to rant about it (and go off on tangents) quite easily. You get the yes because you're preaching to the choir, and because I think it takes an intelligent person, raised in this eduaction system, to step back and look at the problems and disadvantages of being taught only what you need to know when you need to know it (which proves that you know more than that). Phew, run on sentence.

-isolationism as the reason to oppose the warin Iraq
-Libertarian leanings (rather incongruous with Nader...)
-being "a coldhearted bitch"
-too many short, uninteresting, off-hand responses

yes
but to clarify: the death penalty is more expensive because of the cost of all of the appeals. Also, at the rate California (my state) is executing people they will almost all die of natural causes.

Also, if life is life, then why should the puppies die?
By that logic the man is only one life and 100 lives outweigh his...

I think the homeless guy has more potential to do good in the world than the puppies. I mean, it's not like the world has a shortage of either... and I totally see your point. But I guess on my priority scale, sentient life is slightly higher than non-sentient.

I have to admit that so many applications have been posted that I'm just skimming them now, but you earn an affirmative vote for the irony of this statement:

"Oh, for the love of God, just let them be happy together."

Your death penalty answer is undeveloped, but the rest of the application is acceptable.
