1) This is an April Fool's joke, implying the Evening Standard think rape is a joke.

2) Nick Erikson of the BNP actually did write the following posts on his blog:

Give Her a Slap! The truth is that Home Office figures have shown that there is an equal amount of violence perpetrated by men and by women, but the feminist media keep repeating the ( Read more... )

Vile. vile vile.

The BNP are a disgusting bunch of fascist thugs masquerading as a political party. It sickens me that people actually vote for them.

The idea that there is anything remotely funny about rape makes my blood boil. There is not more than one kind of rape. Rape is sexual violence against a woman or a man, generally a woman. This kind of bullshit has to be challenged at every single opportunity.

There is no such thing as a "lesser" rape. The person who wrote this crap deserves to be castrated with a blunt rusty axe.

first the BNP are not fascist, perhaps you should educate yourself on politics?

I've read a number of BNP manifestos, and taken the definition of fascist under the broad definition that Mussolini used, they are most certainly fascist.

A huge pile of anti-racists misues the term fascist as a synonym for racist or nazi, this is incorrect, but the BNP are most certainly fascist according to their own policies.

I personally also believe them to be racist, but that's not a point being discussed.

"It sickens me that people actually vote for them."

its called democracy, you wouldnt be a pc fascist would you?In a democracy, we're all allowed to be sickened by how people vote-it freaks me out that a huge number of USians voted for Bush, it bothers me that people still vote Labour, and that the BNP does at times get a chunk of voters to turn out is quite worrying ( ... )

You have just exposed yourself as an ignorant joke, if you take the current BNP manifesto you will find it no more qualifies as fascist than the current Labour party or the EU. in fact the Labour party and the EU meet much more of the criteria, but you rarely hear them called fascist - its just a silly lable the schmucks like you, like to use!

The bit about "needing 5%" and "likely"? Only likely if turnout is low.

Which is why it's essential turnout is high, the BNP will motivate their voters, what they've got of them, and scarily a lot of BNP voters do think that way (or don't care about those that do). If they get in, it's because other people didn't bother to vote, not because there are a lot of them.

It's not, unfortunately, a joke. It is someone who needs to be stopped from office, but the more people that know about this the more likely people will turn up to vote for anyone else.

you are an idiot, if the turn out is low it is because no one supports the other parties, people would turn out if they had someone worth voting for ( ... )

"Arguing that there are differing degrees of rape is one thing. Asserting as this candidate did that women should enjoy being forced to do something they don't like? That is vile."

no one said they would enjoy it moron! try reading the post before talking shite!

You're absolutely right, Anonymous. Here are some more statistics that support your claims. I suggest you go read them -- they're very enlightening.

Looks like "anonymouse" is a fascist.

Look, shitbag, I don't like your sort of politics and I don't care who knows it.

You and the people you support are scum.

I don't give a toss about your opinions and I have no interest in your arguments.

I marched against scum like you back in the 1970s and I'll march again if necessary.

You can f*ck off from here.

My sympathies for your troll infestation.

So, for one thing, there's the obvious. (Not funny as a joke, and probably not a joke for the reason that these ideas are often taken seriously in the national discourse, horrifically enough; as such, for the same reason that you wouldn't post "Black people = lazy" or "I think we should immediately attack Iran" as an April Fools' Day joke, these are probably "serious" posts. At least seriously intended.)

What gets me is the guy saying he's trying to raise an important issue in a provocative yadda yadda yadda...

Not because it's plainly stupid, but because it's not a new argument. He's not raising a "provocative issue"; he's alluding to foolishness that's been raised, debunked, raised again, debunked again, put in the mouths of fictional characters to show their chauvanism, probably used as a tattoo, printed on newspaper used to wrap up fish and chips, and finally left to an elderly relative who says that after we die there's going to be a planet for a French and a planet for the Chinese and ( ... )

(Also, while not by any means on the same scale as rape, force-feeding a woman chocolate cake would be assault. She plainly doesn't want chocolate cake at this time, you'd need to keep her in one place, most methods of force-feeding often cause minor to major injuries - hence the "force", it symbolically takes the choice of feeding herself away from her, and if she's lactose intolerant or even just full you run the risk of making her very sick. So, Mr. Erikson, your very bad and stupid analogy also shoots you in the foot. See above RE: no points, mercy.)

See, yeah, that's what I was going to say.

But then, force-feeding hits a squick button of mine that I'm aware isn't universally shared.

Actually, I disagree with Kadrin in that I think it is on the same scale as rape, but that's possibly because of my attitude to sex - abuse is abuse is abuse and force feeding is a traumatising experience and a form of torture.

I'd been tossing up about that bit, actually. I suspect it's because of the tone used - when something's presented as "obvious absurdity", it can be difficult to completely disengage one's brain from that to say "well, actually..."

I agree with you on abuse being abuse, to be honest. What I really mean by "not on the same scale" is that since force-feeding chocolate cake doesn't bring up gender politics, you'll be unlikely to face the judgement of a society that murmurs into its beer "That's just what you get for being a woman". There don't seem to be any really damaging assumptions about "eats chocolate cake" that can be reinforced and amplified into major upset. As such, I suppose I'm saying that while the original issue is on the same scale, the aftermath is less damaging - if only because society is not designed to focus on chocolate cake crime.

Having said that, I probably did put things wrongly, or misunderstood/misstated the premise. I will say that this particular issue is a new idea to me, and as such one I'm still putting ( ... )
