I'm so bad about updating my journal these days, so bad! In my defense, things have been kind of busy with Old English translating...and translating...more translating... We just totally finished with the Life of Saint Edmund, and now we've started Bede's Account of Cædmon, which is multiple times harder than Edmund! What the fuck, the syntax is ( Read more... )

...I was just wondering the other day about the history of the English word for England. :) How'd they decide on "Angel" (or, some derivative of that) anyway, I wonder? did they name themselves, or did someone else name them?

It all comes from the Angles. Land of the Angles. Angle land. It kind of evolved from there.
