In Utilitarianism, a hedon is a generic unit of utility, or pleasure. In theory, thinking in hedons should allow you to make comparisons between any two possible choices: Would you rather get a puppy or go to Europe? Would you rather have a 5% APY $40,000 bond maturing in 5 years or a medical procedure that would restore the full range of motion in [afflicted body part]?

I'm really sorry you got roped into going to Hockessin. Those people are horrible. Uncle Stuart is not the jovial fellow from our childhoods, but a cantankerous, miserable man who could not possible hate his life more and whose only relief comes from spreading his grief amongst his family members.
