At the reception tonight there was some pretty swanky food out, and as usual completely unlabeled. I feel much sorrier for the lactose-intolerant than for myself, since several things -- including what looked a lot like hummus -- turned out to be stealth cheese. So, I'm going to Claremont, a little east of LA, for this one-day conference. I could have taken the bus there and back for around $80, and paid $150 for two nights at a cheap hotel (all this is out of pocket, not UCSF money).
