It makes some sense. But I think that Buffy did choose Angel, unless we wake up and realize that she's been on drugs all season. In which case... I still think she chose. Cut out a fantasy and she's been pretty darn uncaring about Spike and given everything people at DH have said, they are never, ever, ever going to put in the effort to adequately smooth that out.
Still, even all those problems aside, it would upset me terribly for Buffy to be locked away in a hell dimension alone, expecially since Angel has been the one doing the most actively dumbass stuff. (And I don't hate Angel! I just think what he's done in Seaon 8 has been so insanely apalling and self-centered that the price exacted for it to him must be huge. Buffy's deserving of a huge-ass bucket of water dumped on her head for the bank robbing, the sister-ignoring, the 'bestest day ever' even though there's been billions of dollars of damage and a lot of people died (knowing that and saying 'best day ever' isn't a flaw it's a display of breathtaking egocentrism),

Oh, I'm no fan of Buffy in S8 at all. I am absolutely shocked at the way she's been portrayed with no real explanation for it. Buffy's morals were so strict on the show that it was a mocking point for both Spike and Faith and yet we're supposed to buy she went from 'you can't beat evil by doing evil' to this? The way it's done with no backstory is why I'm still thinking there will be another shoe to drop regarding what's going on with her. Even with Angel, the writers set up a reason for his actions, as stupid as they are. Buffy's actions are done in a way that I think they're supposed to make the readers go WTF

Supposedly it's his plot, but he's not going to be as hands on.
From the way the PTB have talked, everyone goes their separate ways after this.
