Oh, I'm no fan of Buffy in S8 at all. I am absolutely shocked at the way she's been portrayed with no real explanation for it. Buffy's morals were so strict on the show that it was a mocking point for both Spike and Faith and yet we're supposed to buy she went from 'you can't beat evil by doing evil' to this? The way it's done with no backstory is why I'm still thinking there will be another shoe to drop regarding what's going on with her. Even with Angel, the writers set up a reason for his actions, as stupid as they are. Buffy's actions are done in a way that I think they're supposed to make the readers go WTF.
I don't think we're supposed to think Buffy deserves what will happen if this is right. It's supposed to be tragedy at the utmost. It'll subvert B/A but also subvert a forgotten ship: The Core Four. Like Shadowkat mentioned, the Scoobies ripped her out of heaven for selfish reasons, and there's a certain unity to leaving her in hell for selfish reasons too. In the first issue Buffy laments her friends distance. There's no way to get over friendships of the past than to be fucked over like that.
It just doesn't bring a lot of satisfaction to me. It feels kind of meta-y and hollow.
Me either. :) I in no way consider the comics canon or anything resembling good on any level. I just like to figure things out. :P
