Claude + Claire = ADORABLE

Btw, I thought Claire/Hayden's eyes are blue, not brown. Maybe I'm wrong.

Hee! Thank you :)

You might well be right - I'd always thought they were brown, but then I'd always thought Jack Coleman's were brown and his turn out to be (morally) grey, so clearly my judgement of such things is a bit off!

Thanks for reading :)

a thing gladly left behind, and yet persistently sticky in memory like tyres on hot asphalt.

A beautiful phrase.

I liked the mood of this. I love all the little character dynamics, and I understand the melancholy of realizing that Claude was once such a gregarious, friendly character until it got shot out of him by one of those people he cared for (in both senses of the term). And I was amused by all the insider CE tidbits, particularly the driving. (That Top Gear spot is a personal favourite.)

Thank you :) It was just one of those throwaway things that somehow inserted itself in my fic ;)

Thank you for getting that. I feel less mopey about it this morning, but still ... yeah.

*g* The Top Gear spot is great (and I'm not really a Top Gear fan. But I am a CE fan like woah, so ... ;) ... and somehow that little detail just snuck in here, since we've never seen Claude driving ;)

Thanks for reading!

Thank you for getting that.

I think that's one of the reasons the character gets so much attention, that we understand that he was a good guy, and the Company and his friend and partner screwed him over big time, therefore he's on the run and terrified. Well, that and CE is a phenomenal actor and can give us all that with practically no screentime.

As for the Top Gear spot, I think one of its charms is that it's a rare chance to see CE as himself and so relaxed. I just laughed so hard when he said Jeremy Clarkson was part sheep, and the way he was so relaxed he was practically lying down on the bench. "I beat VInnie?!"

It is a tremendously grabby back-story :)

That helps, too :)

Jeremy Clarkson as part sheep = genius :)

The one thing I really took away from that interview/TV spot is that he loves a challenge. Watch him talk about mastering stuff, being able to do it. He likes to get his teeth into stuff. Rawr.

Huh, I didn't think that Homelife thing was that good...but seriously. Thank you.

This was very nice. A lovely little moment with some shadows, still.

Claude can usually find a button or two of Bennet's to press.- Well, I'll bet...

Okay, I'm not in the best commenting frame of mind, but I did think it was quite good.

I thought Homelife was terrific, so there ;P And honestly, it's the most Sandra-honouring fic I've seen.

Glad you liked this. And yeah, apparently I can't keep shadows out of Claude-related fic. At all.

Claude can usually find a button or two of Bennet's to press.

- Well, I'll bet...

Hee! I couldn't resist leaving that hanging. Of course, I was referring to them winding each other up ... why, whatever did you think I meant? 0;)

Oh wow, I love this.

Claude's interaction with Claire is wonderful-- though I have a soft spot for that for some reason. I let out a big awwwww at the "I'll invite you." :)

I also love the little deatils about Claude's past. In my personal fanon in my mind (which is obsessively detailed) I actually had Claude as from an industrial area outside Manchester, so it's nice to see that shared with someone who is actually British. *g*

I think this was my favorite line though:

The memory of Sandra and Claire and Lyle still too fresh in his mind; Bennet might be used to compartmentalising that stuff, but he's not. Not when this might as well be the only family he ever had.

Mainly because my one issue with Claude/Bennet is that I've always had trouble reconciling Claude being able to carry on a relationship with Bennet while being close to Bennet's family.

And I know that nagging feeling, but no worries, because this was lovely. :)

*g* You're all saps!

Well, I think we've all made the (perhaps lazy) assumption that since Claude's accent is more or less CE's native one, it makes sense for them to be from the same place. And Salford is - or at least - has been a post-industrial wasteland - still very impoverished in pockets, though bits of it have also been modernised and 'gentrified', for want of a better word. I'm sorry, I'm rambling now ;)

This is lovely. Feels like a Company Man missing scene. Especially Claude's disappearing act with lil' Claire (friggin' adorable, that).

And I'm glad for the lack of smuttiness here - the Claude/Bennet interaction feels very understated and right. The slashiness is just one part of their very complex relationship, and there are plenty of other facets to explore.

Also, this reminds me of an awesome fancomic - dunno if you've seen it, so I thought I'd link you up. :D

I'm so glad you liked it! :) Claude/Bennet feels like your territory (I'm much more at home with Plaude, obviously) so it makes me nervous to feel like I'm standing in your space.

Yeah, I originally intended to take this to a smuttier place, but they left the house and I couldn't do it. I mean, it was just completely wrong for them at that moment. And yes, they have such a breadth of relationship that there's plenty left over after the smut.

The comic is just ... dude. I'm in awe that someone can produce something that professional-looking (god bless computers and t'internet!). Thanks so much for the link! I've left her (?) a suitably jaw-dropped comment :)

Heh, I gotta admit - I actually am pretty damn territorial when it comes to Claude/Bennet. xD But I don't mind the invasion as long as it's good writing, and this definitely is.

I actually liked that fancomic a lot more than some of the official NBC ones. It's just so damn right.

I'm very flattered to hear that you think so :) There will be more Claude/Bennet at some point, and I only hope it's passable.

Am quite interested to read the general sense of horror in the comments of your most recent post at what would happen if Claude/Bennet became as popular as Mylar, and the likely drop in quality that'd result ... I'm only just really getting a feel for the relative sizes of the different ship fandoms. Do I have it right that Claude/Bennet < Plaude < Petrellicest < Mylar?
