This is lovely. Feels like a Company Man missing scene. Especially Claude's disappearing act with lil' Claire (friggin' adorable, that).

And I'm glad for the lack of smuttiness here - the Claude/Bennet interaction feels very understated and right. The slashiness is just one part of their very complex relationship, and there are plenty of other facets to explore.

Also, this reminds me of an awesome fancomic - dunno if you've seen it, so I thought I'd link you up. :D

I'm so glad you liked it! :) Claude/Bennet feels like your territory (I'm much more at home with Plaude, obviously) so it makes me nervous to feel like I'm standing in your space.

Yeah, I originally intended to take this to a smuttier place, but they left the house and I couldn't do it. I mean, it was just completely wrong for them at that moment. And yes, they have such a breadth of relationship that there's plenty left over after the smut.

The comic is just ... dude. I'm in awe that someone can produce something that professional-looking (god bless computers and t'internet!). Thanks so much for the link! I've left her (?) a suitably jaw-dropped comment :)

Heh, I gotta admit - I actually am pretty damn territorial when it comes to Claude/Bennet. xD But I don't mind the invasion as long as it's good writing, and this definitely is.

I actually liked that fancomic a lot more than some of the official NBC ones. It's just so damn right.

I'm very flattered to hear that you think so :) There will be more Claude/Bennet at some point, and I only hope it's passable.

Am quite interested to read the general sense of horror in the comments of your most recent post at what would happen if Claude/Bennet became as popular as Mylar, and the likely drop in quality that'd result ... I'm only just really getting a feel for the relative sizes of the different ship fandoms. Do I have it right that Claude/Bennet < Plaude < Petrellicest < Mylar?

Claude/Bennet becoming as popular as Mylar is a pretty absurd thought, honestly. Then again, the popularity of Mylar is pretty absurd.

Hmm... Okay, so once upon a time Petrellicest ruled fandom, but somewhere around the pre-finale episodes, Mylar started taking over, and Petrellicest has been on a steady decline ever since. These days it's all Mylar, and I actually see more Plaude than Petrellicest on a regular basis. That's the impression I've been getting from ninth_wonders, at any rate, though it would be interesting to make a more comprehensive fandom research. Still, I'd say your chain of ship popularity is pretty accurate - except that at the moment Claude/Bennet is probably at least 10 times smaller than Plaude (I'd say it's roughly proportionate to Peter/Sylar, maybe a bit smaller... So it's something like this: Mylar > Petrellicest > Plaude > Peter/Mohinder > Hiro/Ando > Peter/Sylar > Claude/Bennet > Matt/Bennet > Matt/Ted, etc... Not sure about Hiro/Ando placement, though ( ... )

SRSLY? Is Petrellicest really in decline? I mean, I watch the posts on my f-list but rarely have time to read much (it is a pairing I enjoy, at least from certain writers). And yeah, the Mylar list (which I also watch but almost never read) has been pretty busy. But ... huh. Interesting. I guess the series sort of finished on such a Petrellicest high that after you've made the logical follow-through (and several writers have, extremely well) then there's nothing much left to say. Almost to the point where their slash relationship has jumped the shark (like Niles and Daphne finally getting together in Frasier, or something. After that it was all downhill. Requited love makes for crap TV). ... uh ... where was I?

Yeah, Claude/Bennet is tiny. But gaining, no? :D What kind of plan did you have in mind? Write lots and surely some of it will stick? :D

And seriously, Peter/Mohinder > Hiro/Ando? Huh.

Well, I'm certainly holding out for a Bennet renaissance :)

Maybe it just seems like a decline because Mylar is eating fandom. But I wouldn't worry about the Petrellicest too much - I'm sure next season will give it plenty of fodder (actually, one of the things that make me generally disinterested in the pairing is the excessive canon - I prefer to operate in a more unrestrained territory).

Yup, I think Claude/Bennet is growing a bit. I think a lot of it has to do with Bennet's popularity as a character. But I think that if there's no Claude in season 2, other Bennetslash pairings would easily gain on it (Matt/Bennet, Peter/Bennet - whoever he interacts with, just about). Bennetslash started... existing towards the end of the season, and I think it's mostly because Bennet's dynamic with the rest of the characters changed pretty dramatically since he'd gone rogue. He's much more integrated with the rest of the cast now, while before he was mostly just interacting with Claire and doing Company bsbs ( ... )

Mylar is eating fandom

Now that needs to be put into an icon somewhere.

I'm not overly concerned about Petrellicest and where it goes (no doubt there will be more fodder ...) - I like it when it's done well but it's not an overriding concern of mine.

Bennet, I think, is immensely popular as a character. So I think you can look forward to more Bennet slash :)

I'd read a few Hiro/Ando things before 5YG, but hadn't noticed if it'd exploded (ha) since. And yeah, I do not get Peter/Mohinder at all. *shrug*

Nah, not a raging megalomaniac. I think you care about the ship and the fandom, and that's awesome.

(what I worry about in season 2 is whether they manage to bring CE back or not - I'm desperately hoping for some Claude/Bennet screentime - hell, even in the comics. They only had the three scenes together, and while those were one helluva three scenes and gave virtually endless fic-fodder of OWI Wonder Years, I'd worry for the ship if there was no Claude in S2

Yeah, that's a big concern. I think everyone concerned wants to make it happen (Jack Coleman certainly seems to and I hear that Tim Kring is keen ... apparently CE wants something "meaty" to do or he won't come back. That sound you hear is me on my knees in front of Tim Kring, abandoning all dignity to plead. For something meaty. *snorts*. )

Plaude too, actually, but I'm not invested in Plaude). As someone who is - ridiculously so - I'd have to say that actually, we're not doing too badly at the moment (though we did have more material to start with) - lots of the Plaude has ( ... )

MEATY? LOLZ LIKE PARKMAN?

Sorry, sorry.

Would like to see some Claude/Matt, though. They could bitch 'bout MG-Pantz like nobody's bsns.

I'm not quite awake yet, so I'm not really capable of answering much that doesn't involve macro-speak, but I'll get to it later.

I'm curious, but do you have a specific accent in your head assigned to macro-speak? Cuz I sorta do. xD

(I haz ff.net account, but I mostly use it for archiving purposes - LJ is my main base of operation, and that's probably true for most fandom. Generally ff.net is regarded as more of a beginner's turf, overruns with Sues and Stus and such).

Claude/Matt ... woah. I think I just blew a fuse. How would that even ... ?

*tucks that one away for future re-examination*

Kinda - it's very situation-specific. MEATY? LOLZ LIKE PARKMAN is just this little cracky, insane voice, but I HADZ A PLAN ... BUT I EATED IT is pure Tweetie Pie. But mostly, yeah, they sound a little bit insane. And higher-pitched than the characters. Hee.

(About ff.net ... huh, that's cool, thanks. And ugh, Sues.)

Well, Matt's gotta be some breed of puppy - cops keep it in the canine family and all that. And, uh, um. No, that's all I got.

But I really wanna see this pairing now. >_>

Srsly, if Bennet gets to h8r around, why shouldn't Claude?

Not sure how to describe the macro-accent I hear. It's more manic-ironic, I suppose, and I think it may be more defined when a 'LOLZ' is nearby. Like SRSLY? I WUZ UR FIRST? LOLZ - I can totally hear that. xD

Hee!

I think Matt's a black lab or something.

Because Claude is only true to Peter and Bennet! Er, I don't know, actually. Hee.

Yeah, I'm with you on being able to hear that in macro-speak ;)

We need to make a Heroes puppy gallery. 4 realz.

Yeah, I guess Claude's got the whole invisible hermit biz, while Bennet on the other hand is a morally grey h0r. But I still wanna see more Claude pairings (like various Bennet pairs - 's got nothin' on the Claude/Bennet, but it sure is fun).

I find that weird smileys really fit my macro-Bennet for some weird reason. Huh. :]

Nah, I am a bit of a megalomaniac, really. xD

Yeah, I hear Plaude is pretty firmly rooted in AU land. Makes sense, considering the canon time it got (while it's more screentime than Claude/Bennet, they only shared a week together or so). Still, while I'm by no means an expert on how these things work, I imagine that in an ongoing canon, it's harder to maintain a ship that gets no canon backing whatsoever. So, srsly, we needs teh CE back. I'm hopeful, since they've started a Claude comic and all...

Uh, I doubt I can do much to promote Claude/Bennet on my own. See, I'm still on the fringes of fandom, in many ways. I've been skipping between rare ships, which was a lot of fun and all, but since I don't have any large ship I'm rooted in, I don't really have a circle of influence. And it's more than just writing the fic, it's getting people to read them. That, and making them stick, which is something I've yet to figure out. I've written about... 13, 14 fics in Heroes? Don't feel like any of them really stuck. If that makes any sense ( ... )
