a thing gladly left behind, and yet persistently sticky in memory like tyres on hot asphalt.

A beautiful phrase.

I liked the mood of this. I love all the little character dynamics, and I understand the melancholy of realizing that Claude was once such a gregarious, friendly character until it got shot out of him by one of those people he cared for (in both senses of the term). And I was amused by all the insider CE tidbits, particularly the driving. (That Top Gear spot is a personal favourite.)

A beautiful phrase.

Thank you :) It was just one of those throwaway things that somehow inserted itself in my fic ;)

Thank you for getting that. I feel less mopey about it this morning, but still ... yeah.

*g* The Top Gear spot is great (and I'm not really a Top Gear fan. But I am a CE fan like woah, so ... ;) ... and somehow that little detail just snuck in here, since we've never seen Claude driving ;)

Thanks for reading!

Thank you for getting that.

I think that's one of the reasons the character gets so much attention, that we understand that he was a good guy, and the Company and his friend and partner screwed him over big time, therefore he's on the run and terrified. Well, that and CE is a phenomenal actor and can give us all that with practically no screentime.

As for the Top Gear spot, I think one of its charms is that it's a rare chance to see CE as himself and so relaxed. I just laughed so hard when he said Jeremy Clarkson was part sheep, and the way he was so relaxed he was practically lying down on the bench. "I beat VInnie?!"

It is a tremendously grabby back-story :)

That helps, too :)

Jeremy Clarkson as part sheep = genius :)

The one thing I really took away from that interview/TV spot is that he loves a challenge. Watch him talk about mastering stuff, being able to do it. He likes to get his teeth into stuff. Rawr.

That combination of sly, self-deprecating teasing, almost innocent desire to please (how does he do that?!), and laser-beam focus on mastery...

If I were the type of person to say "I'll be in my bunk," this would be the time.

Hell, you keep making me think about this and I'll be off to my bunk, pronto.

Laser-beam focus is exactly right!

And that icon is gorgeous! :D

For someone who isn't very photogenic, he is extremely photogenic.

It's a paradox.

I think he's definitely photogenic. And I'm very happy to devote hours and hours of my brain's processing time to thinking about said paradox.

While I do think that he takes stunning photographs, it's amazing that the thing you hear over and over again from people who meet him in person is that he's beautiful in ways the camera just doesn't get. Jonathan Ross was practically tripping over his tongue - it was funny, it took him a while to get to the interview, he was just staring in disbelief.

I didn't see him on Jonathan Ross ;( Ooh, I wonder if it's on YouTube anywhere ...

And I've never heard that (but then I have come somewhat late to this squeefest) ... will keep an ear to the ground, though!

I've read it in several interviews, Ross goggled for a while, Steven Moffat and John Barrowman talk about it on the commentary to "The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances", and Mark Gatiss has also mentioned it a couple of times. After the first couple of times, I started noting it!

As for the Ross, I don't think it's on YouTube...but there are ways ;-)

Yeah, I'm not finding anything obvious on YouTube.

... what are these ways of which you speak? ;D
