[He opens the journal long before he manages to say anything. The long silence is finally interrupted by a quick sigh.]

... Does anyone know how to build a camera?

Or something that... [A pause. How does one begin to explain it in plain terms?] is able to capture time, make memories? Other worlds probably have something relatively similar.

I didn't know that you could capture time.

[Geez, so many people have no idea what he's talking about. It's still a little surprising.]

You can where I'm from. Most families own at least one camera.

I'm not certain that we have the technology needed to build a camera in the village at the moment.

[That's upsetting. But he's persistent.]

Not even the older kinds of cameras? Those don't require a lot of technology.

The lenses themselves would require manufacturing of some kind. It would help if we had glass blowers...

There's glass here though, so something should be able to work for the lens. It can't be that unique...

I believe... I can help with that.

Really? You can build one?

[A pinhole camera, at least. One which is old-styled, mundane, and would be downright hard to work with for any modern user. Also the film he might not be able to make... it depends on what chemicals he can find in the shops. But he confidently replies with-]

I believe I can.

If it isn't too much trouble, could you possibly build one for me?

[She's back! Does this mean he's forgiven for his little disappearing act? He'll be quiet a moment before responding.]

They don't all require electricity. Or they didn't use to. The ones with electricity or batteries are just easier to use. Anyone can use them. But I don't really know much about the older ones.

[More like her mun she forgot. But she'll probably bring it up at some point. ...She's still not sure what beating on the camera (battery) has to do with being able to work it.]

Maybe one of those will show up in the shops, then?
