[He opens the journal long before he manages to say anything. The long silence is finally interrupted by a quick sigh.]

... Does anyone know how to build a camera?

Or something that... [A pause. How does one begin to explain it in plain terms?] is able to capture time, make memories? Other worlds probably have something relatively similar.

Oh, you can just use your journal for that! The pictures are a little small, but it works just as well, really!

[Pause. That's true. But the Malnosso have control over these things. They could alter them, in other words, or delete them. Then what good is it? But might as well keep it in mind if all else fails.]

I guess I could if I really needed to. But they aren't much better than a drawing.

Do you think you could build one?

Build one? [There's an idea, sure. But...] How? I don't really know that much about them.

Maybe the library.

I've read a few books there already. It didn't seem like they had anything on something like cameras. I'll look again tomorrow.

[He would have said something if he knew otherwise, right? Not entirely doubting, just making sure.] No one you spoke with knew anything about them either?

If the drawing isn't the same, then the artist has failed to do their job. It's no fault of the medium.

[There's a bit of silence. He wasn't really expecting that.]

But things can change over time. Artists can't draw pictures instantly, that's ridiculous. It's impossible for it to be the same.

You haven't met the right sort of artist, then.

[Skepticism.] What do you mean?

How do you...'capture' time? Or make memories?

[This won't really help him any but he'll try and explain, with a pinch of reluctance.]

That's what cameras do. They take pictures of single moments, like memories. But they can last longer than memories can.

Isn't that just like a drawing then? Or a portrait?

No, it isn't. It's different.

Hm. I'd never heard of a camera until this moment, but I take it that it performs the functions you listed? If that is all you need, you could always use a Vision Dial. [Which is basically the same thing in the One Piece world]

Vision Dial?

They're a special type of seashell that can capture images. A bit rare - they apparently come from an island that floats in the sky, you see, but in my travels I met a merchant selling some.

That was of course on my world. In any case, a few dials have shown up at the shops recently, and I think a few Vision Dials were among them. One of my crewmembers tends to pick them up as soon as they arrive, but I shouldn't have any trouble getting one for you if you're interested!

Seashells? But I guess if it works...

Really? I'd appreciate that a lot if you could.
