Yikes!

Ack! My dad just came over so I could "fix him up" after a particularly ugly fall where he face-planted and TOTALLY effed up his nose. Not broken, but really really hard to look at. I'm not too squeamish normally, but maybe it's seeing a parent all messed up... *heebie jeebies* The funny part of it is that he wanted me to put make-up on him! I was ( Read more... )

I had a friend once who had Bell's Palsy as a child. It's the strangest thing, I know, but I can assure you that it really does just randomly go away over time. It's likely that a year from now no one would ever guess your mother had it. As for your Dad, the thing about the make-up is kind of adorable. I think you made the right call though, haha. Aww, now I miss my parents.

When it rains, it pours, doesn't it? We go through lots of bandaids around here, all different sizes. Did you put Neosporin on it? And Advil for anti-inflammatory properties, and pain relief, too, cause that sucker is going to hurt like hell tomorrow.

Bell's Palsy is a temporary condition, but it's annoying as hell. My SIL had it, and my father's friend had it. It can go away quick sometimes too. There was an actor on one of the L&O things I think that had it, they wrote it into the script, too.

Glad to see everyone made it through - congratulations! This is a great story, very touching, I loved it so much the first time I read it.

Yeah, I took good care of my pops. Used to work for the Red Cross (in another lifetime). It happened yesterday and he didn't seem in too much pain but it looked terrible.

The Bell's Palsy thing is just strange and upsetting. She said that the worst part was that her smile was funky and she so loves to smile. I thought that was kinda cute, and sad.

Well, at least it's a temporary condition. Her smile will be back in no time.

Awww, thank you Soft! I was going to put up the drabbles when I get voted off, but maybe I will start posting them.

No, Bell's fairly common I've learned. And recovery is almost always a sure thing. Thank goodness!

Yikes about your dad and your mom! That's too bad. All that stuff at once, too! Hugs to the ilkee family, K?

Liked your drabble, very cute.

I turned in my dmhgficexchange story already. Two down, two to go!

I voted for your story! Twice! I had a feeling it was yours (although that's not why I voted for it)... LOVE ending on, simply, "Yes." Very Joycean. :) I second Soft's idea of collecting your drabbles.

Sorry to hear about your parents' woes. My mom's been dealing with a string of medical issues herself; the latest involves her having to get a shot directly into her eyeball. Yeah, loads of fun. It's always strange and scary when the parent's the one who's ailing.

Yay! Thank you for the votes! I'm glad you liked it for itself. Joycean? Hmmm.. Not familiar with Joyce.

A shot in the EYE!! OMG! That sounds terrifying!

James Joyce's Ulysses is the only piece of literature to nearly bring me to orgasm. Need more incentive to read him? He's also known for Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, which is a lot more manageable to read than Ulysses, and Finnegan's Wake, not so manageable.

lol @ geek-out. I will have to check it out. Ulysses has always been intriguing, but Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man...well, the title is delish and I've always wanted to check it out. *adds to reading list*
