1. The African haircare aisle may help with the braid issue. Sally carries a beeswax braid conditioner for about $2 that might be what you're looking for. A locking gel may also work, and runs about $4-5.

2. I am useless to you.

3. I found an Etsy listing for a smaller bum roll that is very inexpensive - the seller appears to do some amount of customization, so you might be able to go that route.

4. Apply the shadow to the paper with a damp applicator and letting it dry before sealing with aerosol hairspray? White cotton muslin instead of paper?

I suspect the stuff I use on my hair (Redken Rough Paste, #10?) for a somewhat different purpose may be too lightweight for your needs, but I would recommend checking out Ulta for stuff. It's cheap and they may have smaller sizes to try stuff out. Alternately, I bought the first thing I tried at Sephora and was able to take it back after trying and not liking it.

I know that battenburg lace does exist in black, because I had a black battenburg parasol for a while (still have the cover, but the frame died). Check Chinatown-type places, maybe? There was a whole shop of battenburg and cutwork stuff in SF's Chinatown, and a small portion of it was black.

Can't help you on the third one. For the fourth I was thinking about primer before you said it. Alternately, maybe use a cheap, small, pre-gessoed canvas from the hobby shop instead of paper?

I use spray-on coconut oil on my flyaways, which I generally find in the nearby Afro-Caribbean hair place though occasionally it shows up in pharmacies.

Just coconut oil is what I use for the frizzy bits.
I'll be home tomorrow and can check my black lace stock.
Search for bustle pad. That late 1890s look is more of a crescent moon pad and petticoat to give that S curve look.
Have you tried tacky glue since it dries clear and flexible?

I need a few yards of the laces (I have different projects for each type), so don't sweat it if you only have small amounts. None of it is stuff I NEED, just trying to make something interesting of some existing items. But if you do happen to have larger amounts, I'll pay. :)

More than 2 yards. No black eyelet but I found purple that I then dyed black it was in with kids trim like Dora or something at JoAnn. Stopped at JoAnn at the coast and found purple rick rack but no eyelet. What I might do later it plop some trims on the scanner to see if they would work. We just got back in to town and the Halloween Spirit store opened. I was running through looking for things to cannibalize. Give me a day to dig and I'll get back to you. You know I send stuff to everyone cuz someday you might have something I need. :0 )

I suggest Night Rider hair paste (http://www.simpleapothecary.com/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=65). I use it to set my twists. onceupon has also used it to tame fly aways. It's about $20-$30, but the box will last basically forever. It has a light citrus smell and isn't sticky/icky.

In general "hair paste" is likely to be what you want for the braids.

That sounds excellent, on all levels. Thank you!
