Spring (almost) cleaning

Yesterday and the day before that I did a whole bunch to the kitchen. Moving stuff around, excavating stuff we need, throwing out stuff we don't. It's not done yet, but it's more practical than it was, and we have half a table back to use, rather than a patch the size of our chopping board. The rest is taken up by my cookbook shelf, the knife ( Read more... )

Huzzah for having a commission; way to go! And way to go on starting your Spring cleaning already! I'm impressed; I was so late on Spring cleaning this year that... well, in truth, I didn't do jack-shit until the summer house-guest season was upon us, and I still haven't caught up.

It's so charming to think that you guys are eagerly awaiting Spring while we're heading into the last of Summer here. This may sound odd, but it's a real and distinct comfort to know - not just "If Winter comes, can Spring be far behind?" - but that when Autumn comes here, Spring comes on that very same day to my friends in the Southern hemisphere. I love living on a planet! and I particularly love knowing people on the other side of it.

I sure do hear you about the 1/3 cup; it really is indispensable. Glad you found yours! Happy almost-Spring!

Ahaha... um. I'm like the world's worst housekeeper. I have a lot of clutter and very little space, and I don't tend to notice things are dirty or in the way until I trip over them. But I'm trying to make an effort to make things better. By anyone else's standards, they'd still be abysmal, but for me, it's something. So the spring cleaning thing was kind of a self-mocking joke. True, but also a joke, because I very rarely clean house extensively ( ... )

Yay radishes; they're always first! Yay for non-porous kitchenware too; it's the only way to go.

LOL, my room is the Pit of Chaos. The public areas of the house are all reasonably clean, but everything that has no other immediate place to go gets tossed or piled in my space, to sort 'later'. So far, I've managed to keep pushing 'later' farther and farther along into the Infinite Someday, but the limit to that is coming up soon.

On the other hand, housecleaning is an illustration of Zeno's Paradox: no matter how much one does, it can never be ALL done.

I think one of the big problems is that we downsized significantly when we moved here, but we still have the same amount of stuff, and we have only acquired more in the five years since. I'm itching to ditch a whole heap, but I'm incredibly sentimental and also have the 'we'll need that someday for something' gene I got from my mother, so I really have problems throwing away anything that might be usable in the future. I'm trying to be more brutal, though, because I am sick of walking sideways through my own house.
