Main:It's easy to get caught up in the individualism of life, suggesting a subjective morality, but true individualism only exists if you never interact with anyone else. Decisions made by the average individual directly affect the lives of dozens of others and indirectly affect possibly hundreds more. Thus you have society, and with that ( Read more... )

It's definitely a cult, but it's still a Christian cult. Remember the only difference between a cult and an ecclesia is the size of the congregation.

She backs up her interpretation with scripture. I guess that's what happens when you take something so complicated and self-contradictory and make it a basis for blind-faith.

individualism comes from differentiating yourself from other people and hence cannot be gained from being completely alone. ferality comes from not interacting with anyone else.

But who dictates what is virtuous? Society. Of what sort is "personal independence"? Independence from society. Reliance on the self is a separate entity because it is opposed to the reliance on others; self-reliance is defined by what it is not-- a dependency on other people. Without other people there would be no concept of "self-reliance" because its binary opposition, which defines it, would not exist.

In this instance, "virtues" could just as easily be replaced with "traits" and it would make no difference.

Independence from society is a denial of its influence on you. The fact that you need society to define this denial changes nothing.

Really, you're just not making a point in the first place.
