Sigh. I was hoping that Dad wouldn't blow him off either. It's almost amazing how ... irrational... otherwise sane people can get with it comes to religion. I friended you to follow this better.
I'm curious where this could go. As brainwashed as mom seems to be I doubt that there would be any hope for her. So, who will take care of Matt? It would be the height of stupidity to send him back into the situation if he does make it to Hogwarts. They would find out that "witch burning" or some sort of exorcism does still exist. I would have no nerves or fingernails left but I can see that being a possible direction.
How would the Wizarding world handle a case where the muggleborn needed to be removed from the parents to prevent abuse? Most of my knowldge is based on fanon rather than canon. I never made it past the first book.
I'm all for Matt's drama coming to center stage. Oddly enough he seems more "real" to me than Rose, Lily or the others.
Going back to reading. This has gotten longer than I intended.
