I spent a little time on the internets yesterday and came across several blog posts within my reading list with the same theme. The authors had all lost their fathers, some recently, others decades ago. And they all ended with the same sentiment: if your father is still alive, call him; he wants to hear from you. While I was working for him, he paid me a very reduced rate, with the commitment that I would get their old car when the lease was up. When it became obvious that I was taking my girlfriend, and then fiancee, whom I married before we left, with me to AZ, the commitment disappeared.
And then there was the issue of back pay. My wife and I were the last to be paid when working for him. There were many times when we didn't get paid, or were paid a portion of our earnings. Funny how he could always pay his transient workers. They'd leave if he didn't. And insulting how he'd buy everybody lunch, a day or so after he skipped my paycheck.
But hey, he was angry with us for getting married. He didn't owe us anything.
