Orca Cake

Yep, it's Fudgie the Whale's more genteel cousin. T's birthday has arrived coincidentally with my first attempt at cake decorating. She loves the orcas, so an orca cake it would be. I made a dense brownie base and a lighter chocolate top in oval shapes. Both cakes have been smoothly wrapped in homemade marzipan to seal in moisture and provide a ( Read more... )

The poor thing. I hope he's feeling better very soon.

Thanks. :) He's been doing much better the past couple of days, eating his wet food slurry and even the boring dry food. (I have never had a kitty who would do other than suck every last bit of gravy from the canned stuff, leaving nearly dry shreds of whatever meat was in there.) I'm waiting on a thermometer from Lynn's GF so I can continue taking his temp at home, but I'm guessing it's down as he's acting normally again. Also, he's been an angel with his twice-daily clindamycin. Those pill guns are fabulous! Did Grau Katt get over his UTI? And how's your dad today?

Hmmm... Pill guns, eh? I haven't tried one. We usually have to grind up the pill and mix it with gravy from Wellness cat food, or butter.

Grau Katt seems to be over the UTI. The antibiotics knowcked it down pretty quickly, but we still had to go through the whole 10 day course.

Dad just got transferred to the rehab unit at a nursing home. He's pretty sad about it. He had hoped to stay at the hospital rehab longer, where he had a private room, excellent care, and the therapist he had fallen in love with. But the nursing home room came open sooner than expected and he wasn't able to say no. Now he's worried (probably rightly) that he'll never get out again.

Yeah, the pill guns allow you to basically shoot the meds down their throats. However, the same old struggle to open the cat's mouth still applies. He Man's been so good about it, though, that I'm now able to just do it by hand. And he doesn't run when he sees it coming, nor does he sulk afterward. I can't ask for better. His temp is back down to 100.05 F, well within normal cat range. I'm glad that Grau Kitty is doing better too!

Hopefully you can spiff up your dad's room at the nursing home, maybe bring some things from home to make it feel less clinical. Is it not a private room there, then? Oh yeah, and from experience, make sure he labels *everything* with his last name. The old folks like to "trade" things... Lucas's Nana ended up with someone else's reading glasses and had some other stuff liberated. Why do you think he won't get out of the nursing home?
