I agree with everything you said, it was beautifully put. I also thought that the "I was never there when she needed me, so what right do I have to need her now?" was directed at Cuddy, especially given how he felt he didn't deserve her for pretty much all of s5 and s6.

Thanks!

Yes, I absolutely agree. I love when TPTB use another character to express what House can't openly say himself. Though I suspect internally he has realized this hence maybe why he left Cuddy and Lucas alone after his one attempt to break them up? Because that was a move that hardly anyone, not even Wilson, expected.

And thanks for reposting this, btw. I had wondered where it had disappeared to.

I think he feels that Lydia changed him because he realized that he could have a loving relationship with a woman and that's why he cried at the end, he finally knows he can make someone happy and can be happy with someone and that someone is Cuddy.

That's what I feel when I watch this scene.

THIS!

I know a lot of Huddies get upset by the tryst with Lydia but I'm glad it happened--House realized not only that he could have a meaningful relationship with a woman but that he WANTED one too. Which is the whole reason he started to pursue his feelings for Cuddy when he got back from Mayfield.

Besides, I can't hate Lydia--I love Franka Potente!

I can't hate Lydia either, I think is an important step in House's life, he needed this relationship to know that he could be with Cuddy and I think his tears were for Cuddy, no for Lydia.

And in the end, House goes to Lydia's house, wants a relationship and he find out she is married, in this moment he knows Cuddy always be there for him.

You know what? Lydia has bugged me since Broken. I thought it was completely unnecessary of TPTB to bring ANOTHER female after House made it clear (to himself and the audience) in the season 5 finale that all he wanted was a "normal" drug-free life with Cuddy. He was already past the point of "I'm better off alone". His hallucinations made this notion very clear, so there was no need for Lydia and their affair in "Broken".

As for the weird dialogue in lockdown that you pointed out, I never got it either. Maybe TPTB want us to believe that House connected with Lydia, found out he could love and be loved and that gave him courage to go after Cuddy and let her know how he felt about her.

Again, if that was the case, Lydia still seems pointless to me, because House had ALREADY come to the conclusion he loved Cuddy and wanted to be with her.

I guess my post was pretty useless after all (lol), but I just wanted to say I share your WTF-ness when it comes to Lydia.

I think House would've easily fallen back into his default mode of retreat though, as he managed to screw things up with Cuddy to the point that she declared they could never have a personal relationship; add to that a serious case of embarrassment that House would likely have, given the narrative of his delusion, and I'm not sure he'd have come back to Princeton ready to pursue Cuddy (sanely, this time).

I don't think House has ever been secure when it comes to Cuddy's perception of him -- hospital asset, jerk who's jerking her around, etc.

There's this chunk of dialogue (edited somewhat for succinctness):
Nolan: Have you connected with any of the other patients? You’ve been here four weeks. Tell me about your relationships with the other patients ( ... )

I think Lydia made him realize that he doesn't want to be alone. He could no longer lie to himself that he didn't need anyone. That he doesn't want anyone. He realized that he wanted a romantic relationship in his life. His actions after Mayfield were about Cuddy. He wanted her. He had finally made the decision to have something more with her, and he was fairly obvious about what he desired with Cuddy. His relationship with Lydia helped him take that step in making that decision. She did change him in that he was no longer able to lie to himself.

As with this morning, my post is utter crap. I have difficulty expressing my view point, but hopefully it will make some sense.
