Well, Asura, do you think I should go for the original Phoenix Wright or one of the later ones?

Why would you play something out of order?

Even I am not that insane.

Because I already know the basic plot so if one of the games is better than the others....

Phoenix Wright'd be good for the variety. It's not necessary to start with the first, but I'd recommend it.

I have to say Phoenix Wright. (Yeah, it goes Ace Attorney, Ace Attorney: Justice for All, Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations, then Apollo Justice.)

I like games! I like most games. The only bad thing about both PW and CT is that they're really short. >.>; I think I beat them each in under 30 hours...

Ari, I've had TWEWY for, like, 3 months and I'm not close to the end yet. I don't think I have to worry about how short the games are. >.>

Oh. In that case, it's probably fine. >.>;;

They call it Taisen because the series started out with the Japanese title "Super Robot Taisen," but it's since pretty much changed to "Wars" for every functional purpose in the universe except what goes on the box art. The localization team apparently didn't pick up on that.

Uh anyway. If you get OG1, don't expect to learn everything about all the Alpha 2 characters, since there's a lot of overlap but Alpha has different bad guys, a handful of unused originals and, well, characters from a fuckton of different anime.

Also, the thing with Disgaea DS is there's almost no voice acting, which would be somewhat less annoying if not for the fact that a lot of the text boxes behave in order to keep pace with the actor and they were too lazy to change that. Phoenix Wright is probably your best bet for a varieyt of reasons.

I looked it up on, like, Wikipedia and apparently it's Taisen because there's something in the states called Robot Wars that has a copyright, so they can't just call it Super Robot Wars or else they'll get the pants sued off them or something like that.

I'm not expecting to learn everything about everyone, of course. I'm just hoping to get enough context that I'm not left making confused faces at the script.

No "Press X to skip to the end of the text box" option? Weird.

Ah, right. Even so, fandom pretty much universally says "Wars" and Banpresto picked up on that--there's an "Operation SRW" in OG1 that Ryusei guesses fourth-wallishly means "Super Robot War," and nobody buys it. "SUPAA ROBOT WAAAAAAR" also pops up in a theme song, but the technical title of the games in Japan is still Super Robot Taisen. So, yeah. Silly.

Just checking. I have a bad track record with misleading recommendations, more or less, so I try to be thorough.

There is usually, but there are some lines that you couldn't skip when they were voice acted because of a dramatic, important delivery.

SRW totes looks better than SRT. 8|

If I dislike it, I will be sure to personally take a crowbar to your kneecaps, Ethan. 8| Naw, man, it's cool. If I don't like it, eh, it's only, like, 15-20 bucks down the drain. No big deal.

I'm sure that wouldn't kill me. But yeah, looks like I'm going with PW, anyway.
