Grammar, you're doing it wrong

Aug 05, 2011 12:04

Usually, I don't complain about stuff people write. If I don't like it, I don't read it. I close the tab and everyone lives happily ever after. I don't leave angry comments telling the author how much they suck or that they're weirdos for having this particular kink. I have enough random kinks of my own to appreciate the freedom of thought.

So, ( Read more... )

need no dictionary, wait ... what?, sometimes life fails, fanfiction, oh for fox' sake, fandom wins at life

Oh, I totally get where you're coming from, and also why this bothers you so much. I'm a stickler when it comes to spelling and grammar, and it makes me flinch, every time I see blatant mistakes like that. I mean, yeah, nobody's perfect. I make spelling mistakes all the time, and as you know, I'm not a native English speaker either ( ... )

How do you get from must've to must of? o_O? That seems more work than anything else.

Try saying it out loud. I've seen "have" written as "of" more often, not just in connection with "must".

Fools, indeed. XD The slashers are raising hell that Harvey and Mike actually managed to have sex with WOMEN in the latest episode. Like they're forbidden to have het scenes b/c it ruins their fans slash!fantasy. Um ... it's a bit like if you stopped talking to me b/c I prefer epic!bromance for Jared and Peter. It's silly.

Yeah, we all have our grammar and spelling pet peeves, although to be quite honest I never could understand why so many people mix up things like there/their/they're or whose/who's. I mean, they're fundamentally different things. Just because they sound the same... grrrr.

I agree that "must of"/"could of" and variants thereof are the worst. It bothers me that some apply their imprecise pronunciation to spelling and create that... monstrosity of wrongness *sigh*

Well, for me it's a thing of simply writing too fast and not checking it when I confuse words like two and too. ^^

But 'W' is nowhere near 'O' on the keyboard...

And what about past/passed????? There seems to be an inflation of those in fanfiction lately. It irks me. And I wince and then shout at the screen.

"He drove passed her." I mean, what the hell is going on there? Is the word 'past' now illegal? Did I miss something there?

I'm annoyed just thinking about it, can you tell? ;)

I mostly hate it when people mess up they're/their/there and any variation thereof.

Or for the Band of Brothers fandom (which you are not in), Liebgott vs Leibgott.

Leibgott remind me of cookies ... I can't help it. o_O

Why cookies though?!

Because we have "Leibniz Kekse" (cookies) in Germany. I don't argue that my mind makes ANY SENSE WHATSOEVER.
