"We need to stop meeting like this," Ender deadpanned.

It was quite possible he'd spent far too much time around people quippier than him.

"Not--" Tony's voice cracked a little as he reached for the giant water cup and straw he'd been given. "--my fault you can't resist me."

"How are you feeling?" Ender asked - his quips were all surface, no follow-through, sorry, Tony. He crossed the last few feet to Tony's side and pulled up a seat.

"Like a semi ran over my chest," he answered honestly. "I've had better days."

Other people could be quippy today; Stephanie didn't really have it in her at the moment.

"Oh, good, you're awake. Now yelling at you will be a lot more satisfying," she said as she came into the room and . . . immediately over to Tony's bedside, which didn't really make that whole yelling thing seem inevitable.

"Hey, I get a pass," he muttered, reaching for her hsnd once she was close. "I had a guy's hands in my chest today. Yesterday? What day is it?"

"Tuesday, sweetie." Stephanie let her fingers curl around his hand lightly. "You've been here a couple of days already."

"Tuesday." He nodded like he knew that. Just checking if she did. Really. "Cool. That's--cool."

And that would be the door opening again, this time to admit... two nerds with a really startling amount of flowers. Really. There were a lot.

"Hey?"

That was not intended to sound like a question. Whoops.

"Hi," Billy added, although Tony might have to assume it was Billy since he was behind his own armful of flowers.

Somewhere the doctors were sighing so much at the stream of visitors. Messing up their careful work.

"Did you guys rob a flower shop?"

"...no."

THEY'D BOUGHT THOSE FLOWERS FAIR AND SQUARE, THANK YOU.

"Did you rob a... supervillain with lots of weapons?"

The very height of wit, Topher was.

Bobby really hated hospitals. Which... totally explained why he skipped the door an was instead crawling through the *window* to visit Tony.

"Hey," he greeted, all casual like he hadn't just snuck into a hospital room via window. "You look *fantastic*."

[tiny phone slowplay, deeeeal with it.]

And there went Tony's water cup! "Christ, Bobby. I thought you were a paparazzi."

"... Sorry," bobby said sheepishly, belatedly realizing that not everyone went from the X-Men's rule book when it came to considering windows a normal sort of entry point. "I'm not the biggest fan of hospitals." Because everyone else loved them so much, really.

Who was he? Spider-Man?

"You and me both, man. I think someone might murder me if I try to escape now, though."

Or, you know, he'd pop stitches and bleed out in a messy, messy pile of emo teenager.

Steve had spent the night in an uncomfortable hospital chair, but it wasn't like he hadn't slept in far worse conditions.

"Well, it's good to see you looking slightly more alive," he said to Tony, and, "I want you to know I'm saving the lecture for when you're unmedicated enough to remember it." It was a long one. Just as a note.

"Heeeeey, Mr. Rogers." WHY DID SOMEONE CALL HIM? THIS LECTURING WAS WORSE THAN ENDER.

BECAUSE YOU WERE HALF-DEAD, TONY. "Just so you know and can start preparing your--" completely futile "--counter-argument, it starts in the key of 'what were you thinking?' and goes from there."

"Help or hinder to say I wasn't thinking?" Tony checked. Because he was Tony Fucking Stark.
