Curtain! fic & art Week
( September 16th - 23rd)
[Click on the image to go to the challenge.]
Banner courtesy of @ A new thing we’re trying, inspired by the various themed weeks that have taken place on tumblr recently, is to have the occasional themed week here at the comm as a kind of mini-challenge! It will all be super low-key, will have no sign-ups, will accept both fic and art, and will be a lot of fun, we think. Our first theme is curtain!fic or art! (the definition of this can be found beneath the cut.) If you’re new to
hoodie_time, please note that this comm, and this challenge are also oriented around Dean-centric h/c. You will have this week, starting now, to get a head start on your curtain! fic or art creations, and the actual posting period will be next week, anytime from September 16th up to and including September 23rd.
We always welcome you to help us advertise comm events, but since this is a new thing, it would be especially appreciated. Your LJ, tumblr, all the places! \o/
OH, BTW, WE LOVE YOU,
SALTY_CATFISH. ♥♥♥♥♥
The basics:
Like it says above, this is a curtain!fic and art! challenge (if you don’t know what that means, keep reading.) There are no sign-ups. If you want to play, you will have this week, starting now, to get a head start on your curtain! fic or art creations. The actual posting period will be next week, anytime from September 16th up to and including September 23rd.
Keep in mind that this challenge is also oriented around Dean-centric h/c, and creations should reflect that.
What does curtain!fic or art entail?
The term curtain!fic is one that implies a focus on domesticity - as in "they moved in together and started picking out curtains.” To quote
the Supernatural Wiki post on it:
In Supernatural fic, these (curtain!fics) often focus on a time after Sam and Dean finish hunting and settle down together or on interludes when they stay in one place, often due to one brother being injured.
Curtain!fic/art is often schmoopy, but it definitely doesn’t have to be; it can be schmoopy or angsty or dark. There could be curtain!fic set in an apocalyptic future! Or maybe in a future-fic setting Dean and Sam settle down somewhere but Dean is still drinking too much/having psychological issues. The possibilities are endless. Be creative and have fun!
Rules:
This comm is focused on Dean-centric hurt/comfort, so entries for this challenge, as well as following the curtain! theme, should also include hurt!, sick!, angsty! or otherwise in need of some TLC! Dean.
Fic and art are both accepted and loved. Fics should be at least 500 words; no maximum word count. There are no size guidelines for art.
Gen and all pairings are accepted.
This isn't an RPF comm, so please focus on the fictional characters only.
Please only submit works that have not been published before.
All works should be complete when posted. No WIPS, sorry. Stories should be posted to the community all at once (with links to all chapters included) and all other types of fanworks should be complete as well. You can write in a pre-existing 'verse if you'd like, but your fic for this challenge must be able to stand alone.
Multiple entries per person are accepted and loved!
Posting period:
You will have two entire weeks from now on to write/create something for this challenge, but the posting period is the second week only, from September 16th up to and including September 23rd, in keeping with the week-long aspect of these types of challenges. As long as it's still the 23rd somewhere in the world when you post your submission to the comm you're golden; we're not picky about that.
How to post:
Our regular posting guidelines/headers apply here. As well, please use the .mini challenge (curtain!fic/art week) tag when posting. At the end of the posting period a mod/mods will put together a masterlist of all the entries for this challenge. \o/
I’m done my challenge entry now. Why can’t I post before the posting period begins?
The idea behind this challenge is to have an influx of themed fanworks to the community for a limited amount of time. Just for fun; that’s all! ;) It also gives the participants who need it an extra week before they have to be concerned with posting. If you accidentally post early, we ask that you delete, and post again during the posting period. Only fanworks posted during the posting period will be included in the challenge masterlist.
Late entries:
There will be no extensions for the mini challenges, but if you finish one late we’d still looove to see it. ♥ You can post it late using .amnesty and the .mini challenge (curtain!fic/art week) tags if you’d like so people interested in the challenge can find it; it just won’t be part of the masterlist.
What if I’d like to participate and don’t have an LJ?
Please do! <333 As this kind of challenge originated with tumblr, we figure we might get some art from outside of LJ. If that’s the case, either send a PM to hoodietime that includes a link to your image on tumblr/wherever, or send an e-mail to hoodietime [at] gmail [dot] com or PM hoodietime with your art as an attachment anytime. We will gladly post them for you during the posting period (September 16th up to and including the 23rd.) Please use the subject line ‘Mini Challenge’ when doing so, and include the following details that apply:
Title:
Artist:
Characters:
Genre/pairing:
Type/medium:
Rating:
Spoilers:
Warnings:
Description:
You can include a thumbnail or small preview for your art as well, if you’d like.
It is not necessary to join the community in these cases. Watching it will let you keep up with things fine!
Need some inspiration? And/or, have a prompt you'd like to share?
There’s a brainstorming post where you can talk about what you'd like to see from the challenge/leave prompts. You can TOTALLY use your own ideas; this is just optional for anyone who likes to work with a more specific prompt.
Feel free to comment to this post with any questions or comments you may have about the challenge. ;) Don’t forget to leave feedback for the artist too!
ETA: The masterlist for this challenge is now up HERE.
