Challenge 5: A Dean-focused h/c Tags Challenge (for authors, artists, etc.) / GENERAL INFO & RULES

Jul 10, 2011 20:45

I know everyone's busy this time of year with Big Bangs, etc., so this is a smaller challenge (one with a lower minimum word-count/lower requirements) than usual. It's also for everyone - authors, artists, etc!

I've been wanting to put on a tags challenge like this for awhile, and I hope you guys enjoy it. <3

Many thanks to kalliel for the fantastic banner, btw!

The Basics:

This next challenge is a tags challenge, where authors, artists, etc. who wish to participate will be given three hurt/comfort prompts from our full tags-list, (available for viewing here) and will then have to write/create a Dean-focused h/c piece for one of them.

Fic, art, fanvids, meta/discussion - anything goes for this challenge, as long as it’s focused on the prompt you choose.

The way this challenge works, several people may end up creating for the same prompt. The point of this challenge is to push your boundaries and go down some roads you might not have otherwise, and of course to have fun! ;)

Schedule:

Sign-ups July 10th through to August 10th.
Posting period Anytime after you've signed up, up to and including August 17th.

Challenge Guidelines for writers/artists/etc: :

  • When you sign-up in the sign-up post, you’ll be given three hurt/comfort prompts from our tags-list, and will then have to pick one of them to write/create a Dean-focused h/c piece for.

Two things you should know before you sign-up:
    1) You can let me know when you sign-up one to three prompts or categories of prompts that are triggery for you/you’d rather not write, and I’ll make sure you don’t get them.
    2) You can play as many times as you wish, but not until after you’ve finished and posted for your previous prompt. More info on this can be found below.

  • This is a Dean-focused hurt-comfort challenge, so Dean should be the one in the hurt/comforted role.

  • Wondering how much of a role your prompt should play in your fic/fanwork? It should be an important factor, not just a passing mention. How you deal with the prompt beyond that is left at your discretion.

You can of course include any other types of h/c in your fanwork as well (up to and including the other h/c-y prompts you’re given) but don't forget that the one prompt you've picked should play a large part in things.

  • All genres and pairings are cool/accepted.

  • All works should be complete when posted. No WIPS, sorry. Stories should be posted to the community all at once (with links to all chapters included) and all other types of fanworks should be complete as well.

  • You can submit any kind of content for this challenge: fic, art, rec posts, picspams, rec lists, meta/discussion, etc. To keep things as consistent as possible between types of fills there are minimum requirements. More is VERY MUCH appreciated; there are no maximum requirements on any of these.

    The minimum requirements are:

    Fic -- 500 words
    Art -- medium sized
    Icons -- set of 10
    Meta -- 1000 words
Mixes -- 10 songs (Mixes should be hosted on your own LJ, not the comm, and linked to, with track list and explanation of how the mix or individual songs in the mix fit your hurt/comfort prompt included.)
    Picspam -- 15-20-ish pics
    Podfic/audiofic -- 500 word fic
Rec post -- set of 10 recs (Reccing guidelines can be found here. Please review them.)
    Vids -- 30 seconds

Note: These minimum requirements were adapted from the Bingo comms, which are a lot of fun and you should check them out if you haven’t. Ones relevant to our interests are hc_bingo, angst_bingo, and schmoop_bingo. <3

  • Even if it is in the prompt you are still required to warn for anything triggery when posting, such as non-con, dub-con, character death or self-harm.

  • This isn't a requirement, but I just want to say, betas are awesome! If you're looking for one, our very own beta-reader list has many beta-readers who deal specifically with Dean-focused hurt/comfort fics, or you can post a request for one at spn_betas.

  • You may want to check out our links of interest for writers as well. There are medical resources there, among other things.

  • Your challenge fanworks should be posted to the comm anytime after you've signed up through to August 17th, at which point I’ll be putting together a masterlist of all the challenge fanworks posted.

  • You can use the .challenge 5 tag when posting your challenge fanworks, along with any other tags you see fit. (Click here if you don't know how to tag your posts.)

  • The posting guidelines for this are the same as for any other post to this comm with the addition of adding this or something like it somewhere in your header, perhaps in your author’s notes:

Created for the Dean-focused h/c tags challenge for the prompt ‘YOUR PROMPT GOES HERE.’

Just make sure your prompt is displayed somewhere and it’s all good. ;)

  • Please post your fanwork or a link to your fanwork to hoodie_time before you post it to other communities.

  • How many times can I play, and how can I do it?

If you finish and post a challenge fanwork to the comm, you can then ask for a new set of prompts in the sign-up post. You can do this anytime until the sign-up period is over. You will then be given another, separate set of three hurt/comfort prompts from our full tags-list, and will then have to write/create for one of them.

There’s no limit for how many times you can do this/participate in this challenge, however you must have completed/posted each challenge before you request a new set of prompts/play again.

If you're not going to be able to get your fanwork in by the deadline/if you need to drop out:

This is a very low key challenge, even more so than usual in the sense that you’re not even writing for anyone in particular’s prompt. So, if you need to drop out, there’s no need to let me know or anything. Just drop out. I mean, don’t drop out! Because we’d love to see your creation! But it’s fine. ;)

If your challenge fanwork is going to be late, you can either let me know (before the deadline) and I’ll give you an extension and add it to the masterlist after the fact. Or, you can just use the .amnesty tag whenever. In that case, your fanwork WON’T be added to the masterlist, but we’d looove to see it at any time!

    Just have fun, guys!

    Other FAQs:

Q: Do we have to be a member of the comm to play?
A: Nope. Although if you do, you will have to join at some point, as it is asked that you post your challenge fanwork to the comm.

Oh, and feel free to comment to this post with any questions or comments you may have about the challenge. ;)

Note: This isn’t the sign-up post. That can be found HERE.

ETA: The masterlist for this challenge is now up HERE. Check it out!
