So, new season of Angel starting. Hmpf!

Fat lot of good it does me. No friggin' WB in Alaska. Fortunately, I do have a source for tapes, but I don't get to enjoy the season the way others do. I've given up on not being spoiled, btw, so don't worry ( Read more... )

There's no WB in Anchorage? Horror! How sucky. We get it down here in southeast out of Juneau.

Another reason for me not to go to UAA.

I was thinking something along those lines the other day. Something like Buffy being sent back to earth by the PTB because her self sacrifice in "The Gift" was selfless enough to earn back the life of an unborn child created during The Day That Wasn't. I was thinking about writing it, but the whole thing is too AU for me. The premise assumes that Buffy didn't go on to heaven (which I think she deserved) and would change everything after season 5 completely. I'm not a huge Season 6/7 lover, but I'm not a "hater" either. I'm still too new to the fic world to wipe out two whole seasons.

I was actually thinking of making Dawn and Connor brother and sister, anyway.Theoretically possible. On a totally superficial level, she kinda looks like she could be. And you wouldn't be the first writer who's posited such. There are any number of ways you could go about doing it ( ... )

And, of course, I'd have to change the relationship between Dawn and Connor to Just Good Friends rather than Might Be Lovers in order to avoid the Squick Factor. That wouldn't be much of a problem.

But yes, that's kind of what I was thinking. Rather than essentially cloning Buffy (which is kind of what it sounds like they did, only Dawn *isn't* Buffy's clone), the Brotherhood took a life already beginning--a zygote in Buffy's womb--and "gestated" it in the energy of the Key until the two were inseparable. Easier all around, if you get around the time difficulty.

Besides, they really do look quite a bit alike, with the brown hair, blue eyes, and fair skin. Plus, they're both extremely pretty. Aside from all that, can't you just *see* the look on Spike's face when he finds out that Dawn is Angel's daughter?

"How many girls've you knocked up, anyway?"

The thing is, I gather you just need something plausible to explain how it's possible, because once you do, you have so many opportunities for wackiness to ensue. Just need enough metaphysics to satisfy the characters, and get your story rolling. Like a note that Buffy wouldn't have been able to save the world from ADAM if she were 7 months pregnant and Faith were still incapacitated - thus helping Buffy come to terms with missing out on the essential experience of motherhood.

Aside from all that, can't you just *see* the look on Spike's face when he finds out that Dawn is Angel's daughter?Oh yeah. There's really just so much mileage you can get out of that set up, with Spike (and Xander if you have him around) having to deal with their antagonism and grudging respect toward Angel - all the while being so enthralled with Dawn and Buffy. Plus the potential of Dawn/Angel dynamics. And really, wonderful Dawn and Conner bonding scenes need not be romantic or sexual in nature ( ... )

Gah. I wrote it as Conner when his name is "Connor". I am so ashamed. You could even work in backstory from the "Dawn and the Dead" series if you wished... All this excitement, and I don't even have clue one on what the story would cover.

Heh - I think your brother/sister scenario is quite ingenious. It allows you to intertwine two very compatible storylines. Namely, the familial issues experienced by both Dawn/Buffy and Connor/Angel. Personally, I thought it was interesting how the two shows explored similar themes. In accepting Dawn, we saw Buffy struggling with the rigours and rewards of motherhood. Similarly, Angel was challenged by the nature of fatherhood, when Connor entered his life. Both of the title characters struggled with their newfound responsibilities. And both Connor and Dawn suffered a lot of emotional trauma while sorting through their tumultuous family dynamics ( ... )

Well, you don't get the WB around in Connecticut unless you have premium cable, which means you pay for the basic channels that you could get without cable (CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS, et. al.), the extended basic (syndicated stations) and premium cable (20-30 main cable stations, such as A&E, Lifetime, USA, etc., plus your choice of five movie channels, not counting Pay-Per-View (Showtime, HBO, etc.). This particular package cost 89.99 a month back before I decided that cable wasn't a necessity and that I could spend the ninety bucks on something better. God alone knows what it is now. Also, I'd have to pay a re-activation fee of more than five hundred dollars and pay rent on cable equipment in the amount of almost four hundred--and this is before I turned the set on.

It seems like a lot to pay in order to watch one TV for one hour a week.

So, due to reasons of economy, I won't be watching "Angel" either. I do feel for you.

As for the origin of Dawn--it actually makes a lot of sense. After all, it's difficult to believe that the monks could have created a human being out of nothing, and it's even more unbelievable that they could have created a soul for this human being. Somehow, I just can't see their god or patron granting mortals the divine power to create something out of nothing. It doesn't fit ( ... )

Hmmm, I live in CT (Manchester) and never noticed this before, but you're right. Thankfully, I have a father whose job requires him to have ESPN and all those other superfluous sports channels.

You know, according to your LJ profile, we don't live that far away from one another. If you ever wanted to do the tape thing, I'd be happy to help you out.
