DOE sucks - reason #456

DOE won't accept eloise's immunizations because at pre-k age she must have 3 doses of hep b. she only has one dose because, frankly, i was in no rush. i was not all that worried about her getting a disease that is largely transmitted through contact with infected blood, semen, and vaginal fluids.

i already had pay for a PRINTED birth certificate ( Read more... )

wtf, eloise, work

EDS name is handwritten in the birth certificate (because he was originally named "Boy [last name]" but the rest is typed I mean he is going to private school anyway, but I wonder if there would be a fuss.

Really they require hepatitis? Can't you get excluded?

is he going to a yeshiva? i'm inclined to think that for yeshiva registrations it's fairly common to have a birth certificate that doesn't have a typed baby's name and they won't raise a fuss over it. DOE however? that would not fly. did BCC take your info for EDS' certificate or was it maimonides? i wonder why i never got a typed copy...

YES! hep B for babies. they require a chicken pox vaccination too. the mind boggles. i looked into exemptions and it calls for some serious jumping through hoops. there's no way her doctor would provide a medical exemptions and the only other exemption is religion based. i'm just going to suck it up and vaccinate her. i think if they see "progress" toward their asinine immunization schedule, they'll be appeased.

We forgot to do whatever it was Maimonides wanted us to do paperwork and naming wise by their 48 hour deadline. Then Reuben was handling it and he doesn't handle government systems well at all so I don't know if there were terrible complications or he just didn't get it, but we ended up with three typed birth certificates for boy stein, payments not refunded, no social security number (because of no name), and in danger of losing the stimulus money if we further extended our tax deadline. Somehow I got a name changing form and we got a birth certificate that looks quite fake because his name is just handwritten in as if we'd used white-out and a quality copier/counterfeit paper ( ... )

for some reasons i thought jews generally don't name baby boys until the bris ceremony which could potentially lead to problems with the birth certificates since certificate of birth registration with all the baby's info has to be done within 48 hours of birth. if you end up having a problem with the handwritten portion, you can get a new printed copy at the office of vital records downtown. it's $30 and the wait isn't too horrible.

seriously, you're better off asking now and just having it all taken care of for fall. it was so.incredibly.annoying to deal with this out of nowhere today.

personally, i think hep B (and chicken pox in general) vaccination for kindergarden age students is a bunch of nonsense. the risk of transmission for those whose mother and siblings don't have hep B is miniscule at that age.
