Lol, so glad I'm not the only one. My problem stems from Tae-kwon Do and beach volleyball people, but yeah...

Same thing though I think. Unrealistic it may be, but Hollywood has spoiled me rotten anyway.

Not that there aren't plenty of guys in the martial arts who're underweight or who don't spend 2 hours every day training because, y'know, they have *lives*, and the show has already established Dean's apparent disdain for running and general exercise, and it's not as if he's flabby. I just had a very clinical reaction of 'he should be more cut'. It wasn't even anything to do with being female, it seemed to be a totally emotionless judgment.

Though it makes sense that anyone working opposite Padalecki would probably be inclined to not want to work *too* hard, in order not to seem like they were overcompensating. Annnnd it could also be used as a sign of weight loss or something in response to poor diet and emotional issues. So somebody should write that! Is what I'm thinking.

Also I looked at the shirtless pic and my first thought was, "He should work on his pecs some more...."

I'll admit, this makes me frowny face. :/

Okay but seriously, have you seen this?

Because that's really more the sort of thing I was anticipating.

I don't have any real issues with it, of course--and part of it is that the pic is of him with his arms back, so less definition anyway. And again I point to 'unrealistic expectations'. Which I have. Obviously.

*^^*

That's equally attractive, absolutely, but I wouldn't consider that to be more attractive. Saying that people should "work" on something implies that is an ideal physically attractive body, and there isn't. People don't need to be ripped and shouldn't be seen as being less attractive than those that are.

Please don't think that I'm attacking you,. I think I'm more sensitive to this sort of thing because body shaming (on everyone, mainly Jensen, Jared, and Misha) is rampant in this fandom, and it's really unfortunate because they're all attractive and it's good that they don't all look the same. They don't need to. Guys don't need huge muscles just like girls don't need to be ridiculously skinny.

Aaaand I'll get off my soapbox now! Oops.

Ahh, but I didn't say 'attractive'. Just that expected him to be more cut. Which I did. Because apparently my brain sees that as normal ( ... )

I mean I get what you're saying that they could be more trained or whatever but I think Dean's body is very IC. I mean his workout is running, wrestling with monsters and digging up graves. (I personally don't like the really buff body types that much but that is a different question xD)

WHYYYY HAVE YOU DELETED YOUR JOURNAL AUGHAUGHAUGH

I do agree with you, I like the fact that it seems to represent a more realistic response to reality. Which is nice. Frankly given the way he eats, drinks, and doesn't deliberately exercise (apparently) he shouldn't look as nice as he does.

Maybe he's being Method-y, and wants to look more like a guy who drinks all day and night and eats crappy food all the time and is way depressed, instead of a ripped model type? Also, sometimes being "buff" in looks doesn't necessarily translate into physical competence in the ass kicking department. Also Dean, (and possibly Jensen Ackles) having always been so good looking, may be one of those people who are caught by surprise when they actually have to start working on their looks and physique when they get older.
I agree with your other poster that it's not too important, but I also have had the same reaction to his physique in that it was not as "perfect" as I was expecting. But I actually prefer a guy with his more natural body because it looks like he is strong but doesn't focus on his looks too much.

I wouldn't kick him or his buffer costar out of bed for eating crackers, though!

aybe he's being Method-y, and wants to look more like a guy who drinks all day and night and eats crappy food all the time and is way depressed, instead of a ripped model type?See, this is an interpretation I like! Unfortunately it's a tough sell since people seem to not want to allow the notion that he's not as buff as he could potentially be. Alas...but I'd read fic about that ( ... )

Hey, I'm grateful they're not adhering to realism; if they did, neither of those boys would have any freaking teeth! Besides, they carry their scars on the INSIDE (of Dean's liver!)!

Hee!

I do wonder frequently how Sam maintains his frankly ridiculous physique eating nothing but salads. I'm a vegetarian. I know that's pretty freakin' impossible.

Do you mean they'd have no teeth from getting knocked around so much, from bad diet/dental hygiene practices, or both? Because frankly I could see it being any of those.
