Yeah. Often times I feel like I should be saying something, anything in a situation, but somehow nothing comes out.

Mmmm. I frequently feel that way, say whatever I have to say anyway, and then get kicked repeatedly in the soft bits for speaking up. It was an issue in many of the classes required for my degree - we had to dialogue about things, but the moment anyone tried someone would kick them for "assumptions." Challenging to try to say anything in that environment.

See and I just don't say anything, and then the assumptions are made about me. But it's just that I am sick of arguing the assumptions that are in turn made about me, when debate is not acceptable (because how could I possibly understand). So I just avoid (hear the alarm bells) the subject altogether.

I think the trick is to acknowledge yourself as a big jerk - and I totally do - and then just... offend people. It makes life shockingly unpleasant at times, and can make it difficult to get results, but the trick is to have good people around who will step into the gap when you do piss people off. Of course, it helps that most of this was in situations where I could get away with things, as in a university setting where dialogue is encouraged. In other settings I can see it getting people into serious difficulties.

I like the internet for these things, though, because ... well... you could always be lying about your face, you know? "Anonymity" is useful for a viable debate.
