Morrigan, though the very idea surprised her, found herself rather enjoying such a village. Though it held no beauty to otherwise suit her taste, for she much preferred the curious cities of her world to some desolate outreach of a village, she was peculiarly calmed by this atmosphere. A foreign feeling, indeed, particularly the constant state of movement they had put themselves through in Ferelden. Ah, but to what end, she wondered. As much as she enjoyed the challenge of a foe, at the expense of dealing with a dwarf and a smelly dog, the use of running herself ragged at the service of another seemed a strange feat indeed ( ... )

Clearly his lodgers had taken on the role of sentries when he wasn't looking, because the same bird that had scolded him before now chirruped a warning as someone approached. Several flew away, leaving what amounted to the core guard puffing themselves up and chittering; for his part, Juugo stayed still until it became apparent that whoever it was wasn't just passing by. Then they spoke, and any vague thoughts that it would be Sasuke vanished. A woman? He cracked one eye open, then looked up, deliberate and slow.

"I don't think so," he answered, keeping his tone even and polite even as he quailed a little at her appearance. "Unless this is the afterlife." It made sense, except that Sasuke was here too, and he had too much faith in the younger boy to believe in his death. It occurred to him belatedly that she might just be joking, and he went quiet again.

"'Tis not," Morrigan replied breezily, observing the birds. 'Twould seem they had some strange affection for this man. Truly, then, perhaps he was a native - or perhaps he could simply speak with them. 'Twas not something she was adept at, no, but she could read the animals and communicate in their methods, were she to take their form. But still, he hardly seemed as though he belonged in this village. He seemed far too large, for one thing, for the people of this area seemed to be expressed in ways that were much smaller. An odd sort of detail, for the Fade. She had always considered it strange that the Fade would choose something uncommon and unnatural to them.

"Have you just arrived?" she continued, circling both him and the statue with her hands placed casually upon her hips.

"Oh," he said, lamely. One of the birds shrilled a question; he shook his head and ushered it away while he had its attention. It complained. Loudly, in fact, but it launched upwards with frantic wingbeats nonetheless. Within seconds the others had followed it, and Juugo rolled his shoulders to lessen the beginnings of muscle ache. The creatures here were larger than usual. Heavier, too. But she was speaking again, so he stilled, and listened again to be polite ( ... )
