I thought I'd outgrown this shit

OK, so Tuesday I'm flying to Seattle. From Hartford. Via Atlanta. Because that's what's available on Delta before Christmas Eve.

The hilarious part is that back when I was in college, I would get up at a ridiculous hour to catch the Metro-North, then connect to a subway, then connect to a bus, to get to JFK by mid-afternoon for my long-ass ( Read more... )

Hey, Portland's just a hop, skip, and 150 miles away! :-)
And yes, they should be. With extreme prejudice.

Oh, the joys of Delta. A few years ago, I flew out to LA for a friend's birthday using frequent flier miles and the route was...interesting. I did the Metro-North/subway/monorail thing to JFK, flew from JFK to Cincinnati (hub), from Cincinnati to Atlanta (hub #2), and only then across the country to LA. Good times!

Also, I basically grew up in the Atlanta airport. If you're stuck there for any length of time, Terminal B is the place to hang. There's a good easily-overlooked sandwich shop called Marche Bistro Cafe and Bar that's tucked away inside Atlanta Booksellers in the middle of the concourse, right next to TGI Friday's (#9 and #38 on this map). You can get your food, grab a copy of a magazine or book to "peruse", and sit down at a table with a view of the tarmac (provided they haven't moved shelves in front of the windows again).

Yeah, I did a two-connection hop through Delta from New Haven to Myrtle Beach, once. Would have been faster to drive, I think... (actually no, but it would have been *much* faster to take a train to New York and fly from there). As it happens, I have the opposite of too much time in Atlanta-my connection is under an hour. Which means I could still end up having lots of time there, I suppose... so hey, good to know about these things.
