Application for Maxim (Girl Genius)

((Maxim has a very thick Eastern European derived accent- I apologize if it gets confusing. Maxim is a 'Jägermonster' - they doesn't really have any special 'powers' persay, but have superhuman strength and resiliency as well as highly enhanced senses of smell (and hearing in Maxim's case). His right arm is mechanical, but, doesn't appear to be ' ( Read more... )

Zelgadiss regarded Maxim curiously. His first guess was that this was some sort of beastman - probably a berserker, though he'd never seen a purple one before. The other option was some sort of chimera or combat homunculus.

Of course, then he remembered that this was Hogwarts and there was no reason Maxim had to be anything remotely like something from his world.

"All right, I'm sorry, but I have to ask - what exactly are you?"

"Yah, more qvestions, not a surpize." Maxim grinned at Zelgadiss, not at all offended by the curiosity. "Seems Hy am popular today, but no vun here knows vat Hy am. Kind of fonny, dat- Hy am a Jägermonster, und most peeple know vat ve are." Zelgadiss did look rather Jägerish- there was a great deal of variety amongst the Jägers, with no one particular standard beyond toothy with wicked claws. Some were hulking brutes that barely looked human, others were nearly human in appearance beyond minor variations. But none of them had to ask what the others were. "But den, I dun't know vat hyu are eiter. A real fonny place, dis. . ."

Yeah, so this was like something straight out of the game. Outfit and all. She was pretty sure she'd seen like the shirt or something in upcoming patch notes. (And oh god she'd been here so long without access to the game that there'd probably been a whole expansion since she'd last played, and new levels, and her fingers twitched thinking about it.)

Also, there was a metal hand. This was the second guy with a metal hand she'd seen here. Maybe this place needed a quota of metal-hand-guys.

She was about to open with You have a metal hand, but it hadn't gone well last time she tried that, so instead she started with, "The what huh?"

Perhaps he'd been kidnapped by some unknown agency, but, at least there seemed to be a decent amount of ladies at this funny castle. . .

Maxim flashed a bright smile at Codex- as seemed the case at Hogwarts, she was rather oddly dressed, and he expected she'd have some strange questions to ask him. Of course, he had questions too, and, playing questions and answers with a girl as pretty as Codex wasn't so bad.

But, when the question came, he found himself stumped. One about his metal hand would have been much easier- Maxim liked his metal hand, knowing that it looked pretty awesome. Perhaps a more intelligent individual would have recognized babbling when they heard it, but, Maxim just thought it was an extra challenging question. "De. . .vy mebbe vat for?" was his eventual and equally cryptic response.

Not only did this guy look weird, which some people did at Hogwarts and she was getting better at accepting that sort of, but he talked funny, too. Like that time a gold farmer had gotten into the Knights of Good's Vent server and berated her for ten minutes before someone else got on and chased him out. Or... kind of like that. Either way, he was hard to understand. Except not yelling at her to GO HERE AND BUY GOLD NOW, LOWEST PRICES, WE ACCEPT PAYPAL.

Gah.

"Huh who the what now?" she asked, more confused than ever.

Maxim grinned hopefully, not sure that he'd made any sense. Codex's question had been confusing. Maybe the next one would be nice and easy? His grin fell slightly when it wasn't, but Maxim fortunately wasn't about to launch into announcing gold-selling spam. In fact, he'd have been baffled by the whole concept of fake pillaging for fake gold, when it was possible to go really pillage, for really real gold. Although, once some time had passed at Hogwarts, chances were that Maxim would welcome some virtual pillaging, given the lack of the real sort to be found.

Again, Maxim stood there looking confused a moment, before venturing a reply, based mainly upon the words 'who' and 'what', and upon the presumption that Codex was possibly foreign. "Hy's Maxim," he said, pointing at himself with his metal hand, which indeed functioned just like a usual hand, and saying his name as slowly and clearly as possible. He also spoke rather louder than necessary, and paused a bit between each word, as if this would somehow help with communication. "Hy ( ... )

The Hat only had eyes for Maxim's hat.

"Well, hel-lo there, handsome!"

When the Talking Hat appeared, Maxim attempted to retain his suspicion- a talking hat did sound like a potentially good form of Jäger-trap. But, the Sorting Hat was an impressive and believable construct, if construct it was- a face-splitting smile lit up Maxim's features as he beheld it. That it had called him (or so he thought) handsome didn't hurt either- Maxim's ego was generally a swift route to his good graces. "Hello dere, Talkink Hat! Hy have heard a lot about hyu!"

Determined not to let such a fine hat slip out of its clutches, the Sorting Hat sped up the Sorting. "Right, well, yes! Into the school with you."
