Application for Roy Mustang (Fullmetal Alchemist)

Dec 13, 2007 01:38

When Roy Mustang found himself in a small room with nothing but a desk and chair, and what appeared to be paperwork littered across the top of the desk, he didn't let it bother him too much. Perhaps he had taken a wrong turn somewhere, but he wasn't one to worry.

Of course there would be more paperwork )

charles foster ofdensen, roy mustang, gustav margueriff, sasan, soichiro yagami, kosmos, application, caprica six, ruby, tomo takino, shibuya yuuri, russel tringham, charles macaulay, edward elric, camilla macaulay, jaime reyes, oz

One of these days, Ed was going to remember why he tended to avoid the sorting room. The bruise from Russell's sorting had only faded recently, afterall.

So when Ed passed by the sorting room on this particular day, there was a very rude reminder of why he should never, ever visit that room again sitting there. Ed sighed heavily and slouched his way into the room, trying to tell himself that he was only being polite and that he wasn't going in there because he was glad to see that the bastard was still alive.

"Hey, what's with the eyepatch, colonel bastard?," he asked in greeting, trying to sound casual.

Roy just stared at Edward for a moment, torn between being glad the boy hadn't been killed, and doing the job himself. He stayed in his chair as he looked over the- well, he would be a man now. A short one, but it was good to know some things never changed.

"You remember Frank Archer, don't you?" Roy asked, leaning back slightly in the chair. "He shot me. And it's Brigadier General, Fullmetal."

Ed rolled his eyes. "Oh, I just figured you got bumped back down to Colonel, seeing as how bloody coups are generally looked down on by the military."

"By who?" Roy asked, grinning cockily at Ed. "The only person who would have demoted me was, well, dead."

((Placeholder, kind of, will be slow since I'm workninjaing. *is dead at the username*))

For once, Tomo had been paying attention. Enough to remember where she'd heard "State Alchemist" before.

"You're a State Alchemist? You know Ed, right? I mean the real one, not Fake Ed!"

Roy looked over the strange newcomer before nodding once. "Assuming you mean Edward Elric, yes. He used to work under me."

((*sigh* Oh, you HAD to leave that one wide open....))

Tomo gave him a weird look. "Under you? Don't look like ya swing that way! You do know he's married, right?"

Roy sighed and lifted his hand to rub at his forehead. "He was my subordinate. In the military," he explained. "And yes, I am aware that he's married."

Gustav wasn't looking at all military at the moment (he remembered one old man at Gariland who would've disemboweled him if he'd ever looked close to this). He envied the applicant the easy answers to certain questions that Gustav would have once cheerily answered much the same way (though, he'd like to think, with more flair), but years of... things... had mostly wiped that out. He also reminded Gustav a bit of some of the other knights in his Hokuten unit, and the convoluted route of his train of thought from there eventually led him to ask, "What kind of fighting've you done?"

A shadow passed over Roy's face, and he cleared his throat before answering. "I've done my share," he said simply, and motioned to the patch over his left eye. "Some would say my colleagues and I did more than our share."

Gustav looked at the patch and nodded before trying to circle round again to... whatever he was trying to get at. He wasn't quite sure himself. "Say, if you were in this village, this enemy village, if your lot, your Amestris, took it over, and-"

Then he realized what he meant to ask and stopped short. What could the other man say to that, whatever he really thought? Certainly not "Why, I'd burn and pillage and rape and I'd love every minute." People didn't say that. Of course there were certain people Gustav hadn't met yet. "Forget it. Where did you want?"

It was for the best that Gustav stopped talking. Roy was certain that that particular conversation was not one he wanted to have, and it only cemented the fact that he was not in Amestris any longer. There, no one would have said such things in front of any member of the military.

"Where do I- Ah, you must mean which house," Roy said, lifting his hand to run through his hair. "One of my subordinates voted me to Slytherin, but gave little explanation as to why. Wherever you think is best is fine."

[[yay! my favorite little flamethrower!]]

"Very good answer for the Ravenclaw question. I'm impressed."

Roy nodded- he was proud of that answer himself. "I'm afraid I've had to deal with enough paperwork to have thought long and hard about how to get rid of it. Rising to the top seems to be the only foolproof way."

"I hope that wasn't the only reason you reached for the top, though. If it was, then it's a sorry excuse."

"Of course not," Roy said. "My motives were quite honorable."

"It may be true about your good looks and razor wit, but you know what they say about pride and destruction." Mary, out for the holiday season, said to Roy as she smiled benignly.

Roy smiled back, though it was more of a wolfish grin. "I can't say I'm worried about destruction." Most of the people who had any reason to attack him were dead now, after all.

"If you say so. Just don't let it go to your head. It would do you no good to fall so far because of your pride."
