Torn, Jak & Daxter series (Jak II onward)

*Torn walks in, looking slightly worried. However, this is his default expression in any case. Having to run an entire city with a hero running around'll do that to you. His expression changes to one of bemusement as he notices a fairly basic physical difference between himself and the other human occupants of the room - i.e. that concerned with ( Read more... )

Hiya. What's this about somebody who won't stay dead?

The guy's name's Erol. He was a crooked zoomer racer, and then Praxis's right-hand man and the head of the Krimzon Guard. Got himself killed the first time when he lost a race to a friend of mine. He tried to kill the guy, missed, and drove into a pile of Dark Eco barrels, which tends to cause large explosions. He deserved it, too.

And about a year later he showed up again, running the KG War Factory. And leading the Metal Heads, it turned out. He was mostly a robot at that point, and completely insane, but no less crooked.

Okay, so what you really mean is, you guys haven't quite been able to get him dead enough. Got it. This place sometimes brings people back from the dead, so when I hear about that happening someplace other than Hogwarts, I get curious.

*Torn shrugs.* Whatever. Turns of phrase aren't my thing. I'm Torn, by the way. *He holds out a hand.*

What's an ottsel?

Ottsels are little orange rodents, half otter, half weasel. But mostly, they're annoying.

How so, what do they do?

Well, lemme think... *Torn ticks the points off on his fingers as he speaks.* They're loud, they're obnoxious, they've got absolutely no respect for anyone, and they think they're the center of the world. And that's just what they can do without moving.

Kouneru seems amused by the man's answer to the second question. "Judging things and people by name alone can be rather hazardous to one's health, in my experience. Hm. What's a 'zoomer'?"

They're vehicles - they fly through the air and you ride on them. Pretty common in Haven City.

"Ah. Sounds very interesting. I've not seen anything similar around here." Exciting as it sounds, he feels it's probably best to keep his feet on the ground. "In place of a bribe, maybe you'll tell me more about where you're from, sometime? Once you're settled in. I like learning about other cultures."

"You mentioned having a girlfriend, and I'm under the impression you came here voluntarily. How does she feel about you being away?"

Eh. Sure, why not.

*Inquisitive people, these students.* Who, Ashlein? Actually, she's the reason I'm here. She and Samos ganged up on me and told me I needed a vacation. And I'm not arguing with her.

*The ex-Krimzon Guard lowers his voice.* I never told you this, but the girl scares me sometimes. *He is, as some people would say, whipped.*

"There was a gentleman by the name of Krew who resided at Hogwarts some time ago. He is no longer with us, I believe. Perhaps he was the same as yours. Which Krew did you know, and how did you know him?"

The Krew I knew used to run the Hip Hog Heaven saloon. Officially, anyway. Most of the time he was the top crime boss in Haven City - had deals with the Baron, the Underground, and the Metal Heads. The Underground connection was how I ran into him.

He wasn't that hard to recognize, either. I think the word we're looking for here is... uh... it starts with a C... "corpulent." That's the one. He used to go around in this little hoverchair because his legs didn't support his weight. Said "'ey" a lot.

"That would be the same Krew, I believe," said Stephen. "I still have the weapon he gave me, a funny contraption that. You have no similar bribes to give, I take it, though you too are affiliated with this Underground. Tell me, Mr Torn, what precisely is the Underground, and what skills did you employ in running it?"

Didn't bring any with me, unfortunately.

The Underground was a resistance movement against Baron Praxis, the former ruler of Haven City. There isn't an Underground any more now that Praxis is dead. I basically had to know some of what a general knows - about troop placements, terrain, and supplies - as well as some of what someone in charge of spies knows - how to get into and out of places, where safehouses are, and things like that. 'Course, I had to work my way up, so I'm stealthy and a good fighter as well. And I still had to be able to take orders from the Shadow on top of all that.

It's just Torn, by the way. Pleased to meet you ...?

What's a zoomer? Do they come in different colors?

Reply

torn_krimson March 9 2007, 21:21:53 UTC
Zoomers are ... well, they're vehicles. *Torn's having some difficulty describing them, because he's not sure what to compare them to. For him, a car is like a zoomer that doesn't fly.* They go up in the air and you ride them. I guess they're technically called a-grav zoomers.

And yeah, they come in different colors. And if you don't like any of the colors you can get them in, you can always paint them. There're different types, too. There's littler ones that go fast, but aren't all that sturdy, and there's big ones that can take a lot of damage, but they're kinda slow and they handle like a lead balloon. And ones in the middle.

(( apologies for the delay! Hat coming through, complete with bad HTML!))

I've got a hot date set up. Can I borrow a shiny red zoomer?

I think I know where to lay hands on a few. Is a fairly small one alright? That kind tends to have better handling and speed.
