Guys, I booked my Loncon hostel.

Weeks late, so it's nowhere near the con site (it's somewhere near Canary Wharf instead), but the good thing about that is that it's actually pretty fucking cheap (and probably horrible, but never mind that, I'll be at the con all day anyway ( Read more... )

Hello! I check LJ! Are you in London in August? It sounds like you'll be staying near where I live! Unfortunately it's boyfriend's brother's wedding that weekend or we could put you up :-(. I guess you're likely to be pretty busy with con things? Likely to be any scope for dinner or something on the Thursday night? No worries if not, will catch you next time :-). xxx P.S. Congratulations on job and things!

Yes! I'll *probably* be in London for Worldcon (my first since 2005), but really only for that, because technically I can't even get those five days plus two days travel time off from work (disadvantages of being really new at a company: you can't get much time off yet....) and I'll have to give them the entirety of the rest of "my" August to get those days (and also, I don't even know yet if that will work - will only find out in a week or two). Uhm... I haven't looked at the programme yet, will have to do that before I can say if/when I'll be available on any evening. Worldcon is notoriously packed with programming (there's usually around 12 programmme tracks at any time of day, except for the later night hours and very early morning, and I'm usually interested in at least three or four of these, lol) - but I do have to eat, too, after all, and thus may want to take breaks. ;-) I have to check the programme, though ( ... )

Hello!!

Right, you are light on details in your post. My situation is that boyfriend's brother is getting married that weekend so most of it will be given over to the many and diverse family celebrations that entails. It definitely knocks out Friday night and all of Sunday - there may be a chink in the Saturday, I am making enquiries. I am defo free that Thursday but that may not be any use to you! Would be lovely to see you but c'est la vie if our horoscopes don't align for this one :-D xx

I just realised that, since I'm arriving on Wednesday, I *am*, in fact, also available on entirely con-less Wednesday evening. This should have been obvious to me from the start, but for some reason it was not.

Oh, I totally missed your comment above when you made it, sorry!

I'm working 8-6 all week and the entire weekend Fri-Sun inclusive is basically going to be taken up by boyfriend's brother's wedding - but I'm free on Weds night! What time are you arriving in town? :-)

(Late Thu is also doable at a pinch although obv less preferable due to morning start- Excel Centre's a hop skip and a jump from me and there are certainly food options around, although probably nothing particularly gourmet!)

Well, if everything works out, I should arrive at four in the afternoon... knowing the German rail system, though, there's probably about a 50% chance of serious delays.
However, since you work till six, meeting before, what, sevenish? probably wouldn't be practical anyway, so how about we just meet at the earliest time that you can comfortably make it?
I'll be staying somewhere in/at (prepositions, why so difficult) the Docklands (Glenaffric Avenue, to be precise); I actually haven't done any research yet on how to get anywhere from there, but... public transport being generally pretty good in London, I think that shouldn't be a problem. I hope.
