There was Bacchus standing in fornt of him. Was this in his mind again? It couldn't be, the Bach in his head kept spewing out words of hate and THIS Bach seemed to be talking about Quidditch. Of all things.

Andy nodded, kind of dumbstruck. Was he...was he blushing? It was a rare sight to see indeed. He had seen it happen only once before. It was in Andy's third year although he couldn't remember now what had happened. All he knew was that he looked away. It had seemed like such a private moment, he hadn't wanted Bach to know he'd noticed. Now though, he couldn't look away.

Andy continued nodding, unable or unwilling to speak. The silence was deafening. When he found his voice it was only to say a simple, "yes". Had Bacchus not seen the people crowding around him as he'd climbed through the portrait hole? Andy didn't allow himself to hope that the seventh year had come straight for him, instead he recalled he had manners and offered his drink to the boy.

"Butterbeer?"

The incident Andy was recalling involved a fourth-year Bacchus, a pock-marked seventh-year Hufflepuff girl, a can of peanut butter, and about tweleve dozen Forget-Me-Nots.

Needless to say, it was an incident Andy might've forgotten, and Bacchus only wished he could.

And no, by the way, Bacchus had not seen the crowds of people milling around him. He'd heard them ask questions about the encounter and about Malfoy and his behavior ("Bacchus, he putting you in Azkaban?" "Did he use an Unforgivable?" "Did he take away our win, Donovan?!"). He'd given short replies, but hadn't cared to elaborate, his eyes searching around the room unrelenting in looking for wherever Andy had gone off to. Once it was clear to the rest of the gryffindors that he wasn't about to get up and tell a fantastic story about how Malfoy had attempted the Avada Kadavra on him, and how he'd deflected it using Tom Paddock's lifeless (they knew it to be lifeless, of course, because how could a Ravenclaw survive a beating from Bacchus Donovan?!) body as a human shield, ( ... )

Andy carefully kept his hand from touching Bacchus' as he handed the half empty bottle to the boy. A touch could be dangerous, a touch could be unhappiness. He watched Bach's adam apple bob up and down as he swigged from the bottle but it was too...

He looked down at the floor, mentally chiding himself. Not now, he told himself. Don't let him get to you now.But it was unavoidable as Bach offered him praise. His head whipped up so fast he thought he might have pulled a muscle. His stomach twisted in knots but not unpleasantly. Praise was good, he didn't often get it. Praise from Bacchus was better, he didn't think he'd ever gotten it ( ... )

Bacchus' fly had only got halfway up before he jumped. With the oddest of movements, he was standing next to Andy, right behind him but not touching the boy. For a moment, he just stood there, breathing in his heavy, stallionesque fashion ( ... )

It was sort of marvolous that Bacchus conceded when he did. If he had left Andy wouldn't have let him back into his life. He didn't fault the boy for the things he said, he had a right to feel what he felt. It was just that Andy couldn't keep expending this much emotion. He was used to years of keeping himself closed up, all this feeling was draining ( ... )

Bacchus did not beg lightly. He generally considered himself far above that peasantry, so Andy was a very lucky panda. Or else a very loved one, oooh.

But, goodness, this apology couldn't have come off better for him. He was immediately glad he'd done it, rather than have Andy storm out, or him storm out, leaving which ever other one alone and both of them miserable.

But when Andy spoke his next piece, Bacchus couldn't even be distracted by the delightful tickling on his happy trail. He frowned, kissing Andy's shoulder before setting his chin against the smooth, warm skin.

"Why, though?" he asked Andy, watching him with big grey eyes. The sweet, enduring innocence and lack of understanding in them currently was a little startling-- for a moment, they might've not belonged to Bacchus at all, but to a young Louvika.

"You can't say it isn't my fault then not tell me why, Andy. That isn't fair at all, issit?" he asked, lovely eyes doleful. "You must, you simply must tell me why you won't let yourself be loved?"

But, but, but! He sighed and decided to give in. It was fair, he reasoned, that Bacchus understood why Andy was anal about coming out. "You're going to call me a pussy bitch and tell me to just get over it," he warned with a small, wry smile. Maybe he should get over it, but it was important to him and he hoped Bacchus understood that ( ... )
