This was perfect. A purple and green checkered ankle length skirt was exactly what she wanted. Did her mother buy things that she hoped she would hate? Was there a store with a sign that said "You can find everything Saffron thinks is hideous in here!" There must have been, because after last years birthday present, she was beginning to wonder. Adjusting her glasses as she examined the note that had been enclosed with her gift, she sighed and rolled her eyes. It's getting cold, I thought you'd need a longer skirt. -Mom Wondering if it would've been really that difficult to write "Happy Birthday", she looked the last of the chocolate frogs that her brother had sent her. Grabbing it, she unwrapped it and ate it with a vengeance.
Saffron was taking up most of the couch, lounging around in her oldest, most comfy pajamas. Ever since the incident with Gabriel, she had been taking being alone in the common room for granted. After all, she couldn't think of anything to say, at all. More importantly, she worried about quidditch; hopefully things would blow over by then. Looking at her wizard card, she realized she had nearly five of the card and tossed on to a nearby table. Maybe a muggleborn first year would get it - she could only hope.
Even though the fire was blazing, Saffron had reason to believe that her trip with Jory down to the kitchens had actually done some good (besides getting them both sweets and Jory Shepard's pie for dinner). The common room seemed to have less drafts blowing through it, the Ravenclaw table had more biscuits than usual, and - she thought she might have been imagining it - her bed felt softer. She would have to make another trip soon, even if it was just to try the chocolate eclairs. Folding her skirt, she placed it on the floor next to the couch and shut her eyes. It was late, and she would need a nap if she didn't want to fall asleep in astronomy.
